Chapter 34: Finally Found You!
Appearing before Alex was the adorable and shy astrologer, now looking overjoyed. She clasped her hands tightly, showing an expression of immense relief and happiness.
"It's so great to see you're okay. I was worried something had gone wrong... I'm really sorry, it was my lack of skill... but I'm so glad I found you here!"
"Wait, you came here specifically to find me?"
Hearing the girl's words, Alex was taken aback. The shy girl nodded.
"Yes, Mr. Alex, didn't you know? The Star of Fate has a directional function. I determined your safety through your star, and the star's position indicated that you were heading in this direction. So, Lord Stone and I came here. However... this place seems quite dangerous."
"Stone? Speaking of which, where is my mentor?"
Hearing the shy girl's response, Alex was secretly alarmed. He hadn't realized that his Star of Fate had such a function.
No wonder this world felt like it had particularly good security. This ability was more terrifying than DNA and fingerprint verification—those at least required comparison.
Here, they could deduce someone's whereabouts by their Star of Fate. If someone committed a crime, they wouldn't need a city-wide search. They could just follow the direction of the Star of Fate to find the person.
"Lord Stone went down to investigate. We saw many undead creatures when we arrived. It looked like they had captured a few paladins. Lord Stone felt something was wrong, so he went down to check more closely and left me here on standby."
Perhaps seeing a familiar face calmed her, and the shy girl was no longer as tense as before.
"You're here alone...?"
While speaking, Alex looked toward the peculiar black panther by the girl's side. The panther seemed to have realized that Alex was not an enemy of its master and had returned to the girl's side, vigilantly scanning their surroundings. Alex recalled not seeing such a creature with the shy girl before.
"Ah, this is my good companion—Star Spirit. I summoned it to protect me. I'm very sorry; it sensed someone approaching earlier and didn't intend to attack you, Mr. Alex. I'm really sorry."
Noticing Alex's curious gaze, the shy girl quickly explained. Alex had to admit, her voice was perfect for apologizing. When she looked up at you anxiously and softly said "sorry" in her gentle voice, it made you feel that causing her any more trouble would bring divine retribution. Alex couldn't help but think that if this girl opened an apology agency on Earth, her business would surely thrive.
Looking at the black panther beside the girl, Alex's understanding of the world's power level was refreshed once more. After training with Stone for so long, he had developed the keen eye of a true knight. In his brief encounter with the panther, Alex quickly realized that its strength was comparable to the temple guards. Having such a guardian by her side meant the girl was quite safe here.
What Alex hadn't expected was that this seemingly harmless, shy girl also had such combat capability. He had assumed astrologers were a support class like alchemists. It seemed there were no such limitations in this world; every class possessed some degree of combat ability.
Fortunately, with the girl and Stone here, Alex felt a wave of relief. He had been considering how to leave, but now this problem seemed less pressing.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
At that moment, Alex heard a series of footsteps behind him, which made him pause. The footsteps sounded like Malt and the others, but there was something different about them. Before Alex could turn around, he saw the girl across from him wave excitedly towards someone behind him.
"Ah, you're back, Connie. I found my companion!"
"Really? That's wonderful..."
Hearing the voice behind him, Alex turned around and saw a young woman in silver-white armor, similar to what Malt and the others wore. She looked slightly older than the shy girl, probably in her early twenties, with short blonde hair giving her a more capable appearance. She was smiling initially, but upon recognizing Alex, her expression suddenly changed!
"So, you're here, Conrad! Take this!"
Before Alex could react, the female knight drew her sword. A flash of lightning streaked past Alex's eyes, and the next moment, the knight vanished from sight. The whistling wind of her sword came from behind, aiming straight at his heart!
What the hell?
Alex was taken aback by the sudden attack. However, his countless deaths in the world of Dark Souls had honed his reflexes. Almost instinctively, he rolled sideways, dodging the attack from behind. Gripping the hilt of his sword, he turned and parried upwards, deflecting Connie's sword with a metallic clang.
But the woman showed no sign of stopping. With a furrowed brow and a frosty expression, she swung her sword again, this time imbued with lightning that exploded from her blade, enveloping Alex in a net of crackling energy.
Damn it, do you think I'm some kind of pushover?!
Anger flared in Alex as he swung his sword. The ground trembled as a massive crimson sword erupted from below, thrusting toward the female knight.
Sword of Justice!
The sudden strike forced the knight to withdraw. But Alex seized the moment, cutting through the surrounding lightning net with his sword and unleashing a golden slash straight at the knight's chest.
"Die!"
The knight shouted as she raised her sword high. A bolt of lightning struck her from above, wrapping her in a dazzling electric aura. She lunged forward, the lightning forming into a giant lion that roared towards Alex. The golden energy slash Alex had released was shattered by the swirling lightning without a trace.
Alex, however, was not about to give up. His regular attacks were not meant to cause significant damage; they were to build up his holy energy.
As the lightning lion pounced, a torrent of golden swords erupted from Alex, transforming into a roaring dragon that charged directly at the lion's electrified claws.
"Boom!"
Blue lightning and golden energy collided, creating a massive explosion. The dragon of light pierced through the lion of lightning, but the lion's claws dug deep into the dragon, tearing open horrific wounds.
"Stop it, both of you! Now!"
"Stand down, Mr. Alex!"
Two voices rang out simultaneously. Malt and Stone rushed forward, their weapons raised. A whirlwind of fire and wind split the combatants apart, dissipating the golden storm and lightning lion, revealing Alex and Connie.
"Huff... Huff..."
The female knight was kneeling on the ground, gripping her sword and gasping for breath. Her armor was slashed and torn, with blood seeping from numerous wounds, making her look quite battered.
Alex fared slightly better, not severely injured but clearly worn. The knight's lightning had taken its toll on him. His once-clean outfit was now scorched in places, and his right hand, gripping the sword, was smoking slightly...
"What the hell is going on? Why are you two fighting?"
Stone frowned, stepping quickly to Alex's side and asking. Alex shrugged, not saying anything. He was just as confused—how was he supposed to know a paladin would suddenly attack him? He had no intention of escalating the fight, but with the woman charging at him relentlessly, he had no choice but to defend himself.
"Connie, what are you doing?"
Malt's face was stern as he approached the female knight, frowning at her.
"What is going on?"
"Commander..."
The knight looked up at Malt, then glared at Alex with anger blazing in her eyes.
"Commander! He is the cultist we've been looking for! He is Conrad!"
