Ch 73: It’s about time

Owen said in the same tone, "Now give me the name of a good obstetrician—the best." For the next hour, they were with the obstetrician. He set up an appointment for an ultrasound and besides a physical exam, he gave her several prescriptions.

He was booked up for several weeks, but Owen insisted and as usual, got his way. He was concerned because of Abigail's appearance. The whole time she never said anything but just sat there. "She's healthy Mr. Ross," the obstetrician assured him, "She's just very tired and needs a rest." Owen was visibly relieved. He was ecstatic.

It wasn't until they were in the car when she felt his fingers under her chin to lift her gaze to his. "If you think I'm angry cheetah, I'm not."

"You have every right to be." He shook his head with a slight smile, "No, you have given me something precious. How could I possibly be angry? Besides, I have you back." she felt herself smiling for the first time in months. "I never said—"

"We're getting married in Vegas tomorrow night." He said waving his hand, cutting off her words, "No argument. Once we're married, you can argue with me all you want—legally." He added with that slight cock of his head that she loved so much. She burst into laughter.

His expression was deadpan serious but he was teasing her. He grinned, "Vegas then?" He said sliding beside her and putting his arm around her shoulders. "Just this once." She offered back. "Honey, that's all I ask." He bent his head and kissed her.

"Alice, it's your brother." Said Miss Bennett handing her the phone. "Owen!" she said snatching it from her, "Where are you. I've been trying to get a hold of you for two hours—what! Oh, my-Lord!" "What is it?"

Miss Bennett said hearing the excitement in Alice's voice. She covered the mouthpiece, " Owen and Abigail just got married! He's on his way home now." Miss Bennett grinned widely, "It's about time."

Alice talked for another minute before she hung up. "Oh Gosh!" she said hitting the sofa cushion she was sitting on.

"What?" "I was going to ask him if I could go out with Wyatt to a movie tonight, but I was so excited I forgot. He's on his way over." Miss Bennett laughed, "Just go hun, I'll cover for you." She jumped up and hugged the older woman, "I love you, Miss Bennett."

"Yeah, well you make sure he has you back by eleven, or I may not have a job." She released her and headed for the stairs, " Owen will never fire you, and you're part of the family." She skipped up to her room.

It was after Midnight when Owen and Abigail made it home. She was trying to hide it, but he could tell from the dark circles under her eyes that she was completely exhausted, "Why Mrs. Ross, I've tuckered you out."

He said huskily while helping her out of her coat. She smiled up at him, "I'm pooped." "Does this mean I don't get to consummate my marriage to the most beautiful woman on the planet?" She flushed slightly, then raised her eyes to his and widened her smile, "I'll meet you in our room in twenty minutes."

She cast a look over her shoulder before she went upstairs. "Oh lord." He muttered at the seductive pose that just entailed. Already he felt himself harden. It had been two months without her and they lit up the sheets when they were together.
