Ch 37: Fiance?

Then what he did next just clarified that. He didn't even stop and talk to her. He went right by her and Hudson to his secretary and spoke to her.

She was crestfallen that he didn't even acknowledge her. However, she did overhear something along the lines of 'waiting for a drop-dead gorgeous strawberry brown.'

She was stunned. Did he double book a date? "She's right behind you sir." Said the hawk lady pointing at her with the pen she had in her hand. Me? She thought completely dumbstruck.

Abigail watched as he turned and finally laid his eyes on her. Then she realized that Hudson was probably blocking his view of her a few seconds ago.

Turning to look at her, his expression changed from indifference to surprise, but then warmth flooded into his eyes along with one of the sexiest grins she'd ever seen as his eyes roved over her body.

Next, his gaze went to the man who still held her hand, "Hudson, let go of my fiancé." Hudson let go as if burned. Abigail thought she could fall back into the chair with that tone in his voice.

She may have been naïve, but Owen never used that tone. It was possessiveness; there was no doubt about it this time. She felt a thrill go through her. Never in her life had she heard that tone come from him.

"Fiancé?" Hudson said in disbelief looking at her with his brows raised in surprise, Then he followed with a series apologies, then congratulations, smiled at Abigail and quickly excused himself and left.

Owen took the hand that Hudson held pressing a kiss on the palm making her blush, "My Lord, I didn't even recognize you. You're ravishing." "shush." She whispered blushing, causing him to laugh. "Come cheetah, I have forty-five minutes to spend with you."

He led her to the elevator leaving the hawk lady gawking at them. Oddly enough they were alone in it for the first few floors. "If you're busy, we can do this another day." She offered.

He looked incredulous, "Not on your life. Look at you. After all the trouble you went through, I want to show you off." Then he smiled, "Only you would think of someone else's inconvenience."

She laughed, "Really. So I clean up nice." "cheetah you were always nice, now you're polished." He added huskily while meeting her gaze. "Gorgeous."

She blinked at him and her lips parted in surprise at that compliment, "You've changed." In all of her past moments with him, she couldn't ever remember a flattering comment about her looks.

Even the one yesterday didn't even touch the way he said this. He grinned down at her, "I'm engaged. I know what a good catch I have and I'm not afraid to pay my future wife a compliment that she justly deserves."

Engaged. Wife? How wonderful that sounded. He seemed to think so too, for his tone had a hint of pride in it and her knees weakened over that look he gave her.

Without thinking, she threaded her arm through his more for support, but he quickly covered her hand with his as if it was the most natural thing in the world at that moment.

The elevator stopped through a series of floors and people got on or off, but neither one of them seemed to notice because they suddenly couldn't take their eyes from one another.
