Ch 30: At least she’s safe

"You care about her, don't you Owen?" He finished tucking the blanket around her shoulders, "I do." Then he stood while looking down at her, "I'm not happy about this whole thing."

He gestured a hand toward his sleeping fiancé. "I was worried sick." "I didn't know honestly. Like I said she didn't mention anything." Molly held up her hands in defense.

When that handsome man straightened himself, shoved his hands in his slacks and looked at her in such a way she nearly lied just to get away from that accusing look. "I swear." She added in exasperation. "Regardless Molly, you know she's not a drinker. I mean, look at her, she's smashed."

"I'm sorry." She said, "Gosh though, she did need to loosen up. She had to pack away all of Owen's things, it wasn't easy." He relaxed slightly knowing that it must've been horrible for her.

"I know and had I realized she came here, I would have come with her."

Just then Abigail moaned and rolled over. Owen turned and looked down at her. This wasn't going to happen again, he would see to it.

Running a hand through his hair in frustration he returned his gaze to Molly, "I shouldn't be taking this out on you Molly, you were only being a friend."

She straightened her shoulders, "I was." Then he gave her a bit of a smile and she swore her heart just melted into a blob in her chest, "but I guess I should have been more careful. After all, I do know that she's not used to drinking." "At least she's safe.

I think I aged ten years." He said absently glancing back at Abigail. Molly felt that Jealousy again. He was sincere over his feelings for Abigail.

"Are you staying the night?" she asked without trying to sound curious. "Yes." He answered without hesitation. "We'll stay tonight until she sobers up and we'll leave tomorrow morning."

Molly stared up at him, "I'm sorry about your loss too. Abigail said you were upset." He closed up. Only Abigail would know that.

How she knew that he didn't know because he was certain that he kept his emotions right as rain. He just nodded, "I'll show you to the door."

After he showed Molly out, he went back to her room and while looking down at her with an unreadable expression, loosened his tie and undid the first few buttons of his shirt before he crawled into bed beside her.

Even in her sleep she was still completely irresistible and turned toward him. Wrapping his arms around and pulling her close, he rested his chin on top of her head and fell asleep soon after.

Abigail awoke to the loudest possible highway traffic she'd ever experienced in all the years that she lived in the house.

Slowly she sat up and planted her feet on the ground while bringing her hand to her forehead. The noise was pulsing along with her pounding headache and she groaned.

Then she realized it wasn't traffic noise, it was her blender. She looked down and realized that she was still wearing the same clothes as last night.

What did the hell happen? Vaguely several images started flooding into her mind and somewhere she was sure she saw Owen.
