The deep familiar voice barely penetrated her thoughts. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she did hear it beyond the haze of her own grief. In fact, out of all of the people there, his was probably the only one that she would hear.

Ch 25: He’s been very kind

CHAPTER 4

Several hours later, Abigail adjusted herself on the bus seat. She had managed to catch a bus back home to get her and Joseph's house in order. She left a note for Owen because she didn't want to phone him at work and disturb him.

Not only that, the bus ride gave her time to think. Everything that Owen had done for her over the past few days was unsurpassable.

Mrs. Bennett was right, she was in love with him, but how did he feel about her? He admitted to being attracted to her, but the more she thought about it, the more she wished he had said something a little more profound.

Yet this was Owen, he didn't advertise his feelings to his family let alone the public. The bus turned into the depot and she reached down and grabbed her overnight bag. When she sat up she saw Molly's convertible in the parking lot.

She had phoned her friend ahead of time to let her know she was coming home. "Abigail!" she ran up and hugged her when she stepped off the bus, "We're all so concerned about you. I'm so glad you're okay."

"Sorry, I should have called when I left yesterday, but I wasn't thinking clearly." Now that she looked back on it, she wasn't in the right frame of mind at all.

It was almost as if she was teetering on the edge, and when Alice made that statement about family it pushed her into an emotional abyss. She still didn't feel herself, like there was some fog in her mind, but maybe that had a lot to do with Owen's proposal.

"You shouldn't have taken the bus either, I could have easily come and got you. I just can't believe that Owen took you in. Wow, lucky you. I'd give anything for that tall drink of sex to take me home."

How right she was about Owen being a tall drink. Lying next to him last night confirmed it. She thought about his hard warm body all the way home on the bus wondering how it looked like with his clothes off.

Was it like that all over? Abigail turned her head away so she couldn't see her blush as she got in the car, "He's been very kind." "Kind?

Abigail, that man has always shown you favoritism. I never wanted to be Joseph's little sister so much in my life when he's around. Poor or not." She laughed. "Don't be silly." She countered smiling at Molly.

She was always so positive. Her family was well off, not filthy rich but wealthy enough in her small town. Her father was the bank manager so she always had the best of everything. Despite that, she was genuinely a good friend.

Molly gave her a sideways glance as she slid the car into gear and pulled out of the parking lot. She made a purring sound and giggled, "That's all I can say.
