Chapter 3

I woke up the next morning feeling lethargic. I was glad I was off duty, though Lydia was in the morning... I look at my side to see her still sleeping.

" Lydia" I hit her lightly but she adjusted mumbling something in her sleep.

" Lydia, you are supposed to be preparing for work." She jolted awake when she heard work. I laughed as my eyes searched the wall for the time and when she saw it was six in the morning, she grudgingly stood up from the couch where we slept off and walked to the room.

With her gone, I lay comfortably on the couch too heavy to go to the bedroom. She came out minutes later looking to resume work. She ran to the kitchen and hastily tried to make a sandwich before leaving. She put them in a brown paper bag and ran out.

I looked at the time and it was 6: 45am, the drive from here to work is at least twenty minutes. I would have thought I was the reason for her lateness if I didn't know it was her talent.

I kept glancing hungrily at the bread and the peanut jam on the counter in the kitchen, but it wasn't until my stomach growled in protest that I finally gathered enough strength to go to the kitchen and make a sandwich as well.

I spent the whole morning thinking about Michael. We have been dating for two and I never thought for once that he was cheating. I had been there for him when he needed someone, I supported him when he decided he wanted to continue his studies, even when he could not afford his academic bills. I invested so much into him, into us, this relationship yet he goes ahead and cheats just because we didn't have sex for three months.

Or could he have been cheating before that time?

I was going crazy with the thought of Michael in my head. I tried to shake off his face and smile my face but I couldn't. His eyes filled with accusation flashed in my head and I burst into tears again.

I am angry at him, angry at myself too for crying over a man. I was angry that I was the reason he cheated, if I hadn't been so distant and occupied maybe I wouldn't have gotten to this. The jerk didn't fucking apologize.

I was so deep in thought that I didn't realize the sound of a car parking outside or the sound of a door opening until I felt a hand on me. I screamed, but a hand clasped my mouth shut. I turned to see it was Lydia, I bit her palm lightly and shoved her away before breathing in relief.

" Why did you do that?" I scolded and she just bent over laughing. I felt like hitting her over the head with a frying pan for almost giving me a heart attack.

"Why were you startled?" she mocked.

" Because you sneaked up on me." I accused but she shook her head.

" No, because you were drowned in thought."

" Still, you shouldn't have done that?" I murmured. She raised her hands in mock surrender and apologized.

" You know what you need right now?" she asked as she plopped down on the space next to me.

" What do you have in mind?" with that look on her face I didn't need to hear what she had to say to know it was a bad idea. She feigned deep thought while making a weird sound.

"Clubbing" she screamed out, bouncing on the couch in excitement. I wonder how she is so energetic after working all morning. I shook my head in bemusement.

***********

" You are drop-dead gorgeous." She whistled as I walked out of the bathroom and I smiled, doing a catwalk to the full-length mirror.

I was wearing a dark body-con dress, that stop mid-thigh exposing my long leg and accentuating my curves making me look damn sexy. The make-up was done by Lydia and she made sure it was in contrast to my eye color making it stand out. I love everything except for the sliver strappy heels that I would have exchanged for sneakers, but since I was using her stuff I would have to manage what she has.

Who goes to a club to have fun and wears heels? Unless she has another agenda.

" Those who are going to be crawling at your feet when they see you." and here I thought we were going to have, I should have known better.

Lydia was dressed in a denim bottom-down dress and a black boot heel. She was looking ready to slay. We heard the sound of honking and she stood up immediately.

" Our Uber is here," she said as she rushed out.

" why are we not using the cars?" I asked as I grabbed my black dress and followed after her.

" Because we are getting wasted tonight and who knows someone might be bringing me home tonight," she said winking at me. It is in this kind of situation I asked myself why I chose me as a friend. I had no choice but to enter the Uber and wait for her to lock the door before we drove off.

By the time we got to the club, the party was already in full swing and the place was crowded, the beat banging harshly on my eardrum. We walked past the sweaty bodies and through another door. The bouncer there nodded at Lydia and she smiled at him. We climbed a staircase and entered another room. This place was less crowded. It was a VIP area, there was a rail there where you could look down at the people dancing on the ground floor, while up you could see another floor that was covered with tainted glass, the VVIP.

There was a familiar feeling bubbling in my stomach as I stared at the glass. It was a premonition, though I can tell what it is or maybe I am just overthinking but either way, we are going to find out before the end of the day.
