Monstrous Ascension: Endless Monster Evolution

The entire solar system was destroyed before anyone could notice or even understand what had happened. A massive comet changed its course and ended up hitting the sun, causing a chain reaction that made our biggest star expand and then become a supernova. Five hundred seconds later, Earth started to get hotter, and in five seconds, all the life on the planet burned and died. That was supposed to be the end of the human race, but for some reason, all the humans began to reincarnate as monsters in another world. Those who wanted to struggle and live for a while longer could fight and evolve, even reincarnate in other forms if they tried hard... Kane was one of them, he wouldn’t let himself be hunted without reason, and he was determined to climb up the food chain of that new world that had many fantasy races and monsters, gods and demons, hunters and overlords.

Kane watched the golem for quite a while and didn't see anything that could help him to defeat the creature. After walking around that area for a bit, he confirmed that there were no signs of monsters remainings. It became clear that the golem wasn't an ordinary monster… if it would, the beast would need to eat, and it wouldn't be able to eat anything as long as it didn't leave that place and continue to emit such a dreadful aura.

"Usually, the deeper, the stronger the monsters get… but I think in this dungeon, things work differently. The closer I get to the exit, the stronger the monsters will get… why? I have no idea. Still, it is quite convenient that even I can identify how more powerful that golem is in comparison to me. Although it isn't the same thing, soldiers and even police officers emit a certain aura of power since they wear bulletproof vests and have firearms."

Since golems were inorganic monsters, Kane began to think that they could, in some way, eat the ground or even mana to keep themselves alive. That would be quite a handy power for Kane. However, that also means that he couldn't wait for the monster to get weaker. Not only that, if that golem could do both things, but Kane would also be forced to try and kill it as fast as possible. If he retreats, he will give the monster a chance to repair itself. But if he doesn't withdraw no matter what… he could die.

"Well, I have some time before I run out of energy, and I bet I'm faster than that thing. So, I guess I have some room to do a few experiments."

The golem was giant and large; meanwhile, the effective range of the Water Ball was one hundred meters. So, Kane felt relatively safe in attacking using it at that distance. Just to be sure that he would have some space to room in case that golem had some powerful long-ranged attacks, Kane decided that he would attack from the closest intersection away from that golem. In the end, Kane would attack fifty meters away from the creature, but if he didn't have confidence in his judgment, at the very least, he was confident in his speed.

Without wasting time, Kane revealed himself and then fired five Water Balls before the creature could finally see him. Surprisingly, four of his five shots landed on the golem. However, the beast didn't move at all… Kane could see some of the golem's parts were wet, but only that level of aquatic attack wouldn't do anything.

(Congratulations! The skill Water Ball leveled up. You received one reincarnation point.")

Much to his surprise, Kane received a notification, and he couldn't help but frown. He only hit the monster four times, but he recalled that he needed sixty experience points to level up that skill, and that meant…

"I received fifteen experience points per hit… yes, my own experience increased by that amount. If I hit the creature more than four times, then I will…"

Before Kane could finish the sentence, he heard something coming from behind him. Even without looking, he understood that it was the sound of the soil moving… again. Without even turning around, Kane began to run toward the staircase because that place was empty, and the golem appeared behind.

"Crap… I knew I couldn't trust my judgment!"

As expected, the golem also could fire magic projectiles from its arms. Several spheres of earth flew toward Kane. He evaded them by zig-zagging. However, when he was twenty meters away from the staircase, the attack stopped, and suddenly the golem appeared right in front of him, and the creature was blocking the stair again.

"I can only do one thing… run away!"

Kane activated Dash, and in the blink of an eye, the staircase and the golem disappeared in the distance. Although that cost him a lot of stamina, Kane wasn't chased by the golem. By the look of things, the golem could almost teleport by moving using the soil of the dungeon. Still, that power had a limit… or perhaps the creature couldn't get away from the staircase.

"For a monster… it is quite a diligent worker. Anyway, I can't attack from a safe distance, and I can't fool the creature. So, my only option is a direct confrontation. A confrontation against a golem that probably can crush me easily and also is very sturdy... what wonderful prospects."

Although he almost had a heart attack, thanks to the golem's ambush, he managed to take a close look at the creature. The golem had a core. It was probably there where its mana was stored… so it was the equivalent of a heart. Fortunately, it was quite visible, so it was also the perfect weak spot to attack. However, Kane wasn't confident that he could destroy the core, even if he used all his skills and mana non-stop. To make matters worse, the creature wouldn't just wait to be attacked.

Maybe if Kane attacks the area around the core with Water Ball several times until the area gets completely wet, he would be able to weaken it and then finish it with his claws. However, he wouldn't know when that would happen, and he would have to use all his mana, and if he used all his mana, he wouldn't be able to try to escape by using Dash.

"Oh, well… I already considered the possibility that I may not survive this battle, so it doesn't really matter. I may lose all the progress upon dying. Still, at the very least, this damn system can't take away my memories and battle experience. So, I won't lose every single thing that I obtained."

In any case, Kane began an image training trying to see how the battle against that golem could happen. The creature could move over long distances just by using the soil of the ground, but given that the beast appeared really close to Kane and shot stone bullets toward him when he escaped, the golem probably wasn't fast on its feet.

Both arms and legs looked to be quite heavy, and the chance of Kane being killed by a single hit of them was relatively high. That being said, all the limbs weren't that malleable. So, if Kane manages to avoid an attack and use one of them to climb off the golem's back, he would be able to attack without worrying about being attacked. For quite a while, Kane imagined several of those scenarios…
