Ch.18 Haunted House?

It took Ren and Meng about 20 minutes to arrive at their assigned house. It was fairly big for a disciples' living quarters, there had to be at least 20 rooms inside. Although it was a big home, the gloomy aura exuded was frightening to say the least.

Ren and Meng were not afraid. They each had the Light element that could easily take care of any ghost or dark spirit. Walking through the gates and using the key to unlock the door, both stepped into the house. Meng squeezed Ren's arm tight and they were hit with heavy Yin energy.

"Meng'er it's going to be ok, use the Light element and you won't feel a thing." he told her.

She did as he said and the pressure immediately disappeared. Ren scanned the house with spirit sense and located the source of the Yin energy. It came from the master bedroom.

"Wait here, I'm going to take care of whatever is releasing the Yin energy."

He walked up the stairs and headed towards the bedroom. The Yin energy got more and more intense as he neared the source. Opening the door he was hit with a massive energy blast.

"Jiejiejijejie, Have you come to offer your soul to me?" a terrifying voice said

"Uh no, I've come to get rid of you Mr. Ghost" Ren kept his calm

"Little runt, I've stayed here for 70 years. I'm 10 times your senior. Offer your soul or else I will forcefully devour it. It will not be pleasant."

'Hey system, can I devour this thing? He keeps talking about eating my soul but i feel like eating him would be a nice meal'

[hmm yes and no. You cannot devour it, your soul jade can! Just subdue it with Light energy and the soul jade will do the rest]

'Got it'

"Mr. Ghost, I have been quite hungry lately. Kindly offer your soul or else you might feel some pain" Ren smiled evilly.

"I WARNED YOU RUNT" The ghost rushed towards Ren. Claws and fangs shown as well as its hideous appearance.

"Tsk tsk… You are a feisty one. I did ask kindly but you didn't listen" His body revealed a gold aura as the ghost came into contact with him.

The ghost shrieked and howled "What did you do to me!!"

"Oh that? Just a parlor trick. I learned it from my older sister." He said as he took out his zan which had the soul jade inlaid in it and stabbed it into the ghost.

"ARGGHHHH---"

It howled then everything returned to silence.

[Soul Jade: Devoured a spirit that was at Golden core level. Spirit sense now capable of spanning 10km]

'Oh sh*t, big profits!'

Ren returned to the entrance where Meng stood. "Took care of the ghost problem, that fella was pitifully weak. I'm surprised none of the elders ever came to eradicate it"

[Ren, The light element is quite rare. If the elders really needed to take care of that ghost they would have to band together and spend considerable resources to eliminate it. A Heaven stage expert could handle it with ease but i doubt they care about a disciples house to even bother]

'Ah. So I'm just that great huh?'

[*twitch*... You could put it that way..]

"Good job Ren'er. Shall we get situated in our rooms now?"

"Mhm, you can have the master bedroom. I will take the room next to yours"

After sorting their belongings, Ren contacted Mei through transmission and asked if she wanted to stay here as well. Mei declined saying they need to grow on their own and not be under her protection all the time. Ren understood and said he would go out to see her soon.

The next morning their jade plates buzzed then a message was displayed 'All Gold disciples meet at the arena in 30 minutes'
