### Chapter 2: Enlightenment, Interrupted
Li Wei woke up to the sound of his phone's cheerful chime. Groggy and disoriented, he reached over, expecting the usual morning alarm. Instead, he was greeted by the jade dragon icon blinking furiously on his screen.
"Good morning, Li Wei! Ready for another day of Daoist enlightenment?" the Dao System's chipper voice echoed in his ears.
Li Wei groaned and rubbed his eyes. "Can't I hit snooze on you?"
"Nope! The early bird catches the worm, or in this case, the early Daoist catches inner peace," the system replied with a laugh that sounded suspiciously like a kung fu master.
"Fine, fine. What's the lesson today?" Li Wei mumbled, staggering to the kitchen to make coffee.
"Lesson three: He who conquers others is strong; he who conquers himself is mighty," the system intoned.
Li Wei stared at his coffee maker, wishing it could magically brew a double espresso without his intervention. "Conquering myself sounds exhausting. Can't we start with something simpler? Like conquering my inbox?"
"No shortcuts on the path of the Dao, my friend. Now, let's begin with some Tai Chi," the system insisted.
"Tai Chi? I don't even know the first thing about it," Li Wei protested.
"Don't worry! I'll guide you. Stand up straight, relax your shoulders, and imagine you're a tree swaying in the wind."
Li Wei sighed and tried to follow the instructions, feeling more like a wobbling jellyfish than a graceful tree. His cat, Mr. Whiskers, watched from the couch with a bemused expression, clearly judging his human's clumsy attempts at enlightenment.
After what felt like an eternity, the Dao System finally let him off the hook. "Well done! Now, off to work. Remember to approach every task with the calmness of a Daoist sage."
"Yeah, because nothing screams 'sage' like coding all day," Li Wei muttered, grabbing his bag and heading out the door.
At the office, things were as chaotic as ever. Mr. Zhang was on a rampage about some new client demands, and the entire team was scrambling to meet an impossible deadline. As Li Wei settled into his cubicle, his phone buzzed with another notification from the Dao System.
"Lesson four: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step," it reminded him.
Li Wei couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, well, a project of a thousand bugs begins with a single line of code," he quipped, earning a puzzled look from his coworker, Chen.
"Are you talking to yourself again, Li Wei?" Chen asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, just... talking to my phone," Li Wei replied, realizing how ridiculous that sounded.
"Right. Well, Mr. Zhang wants us in the conference room in five minutes. Something about 'synergizing our efforts' or some other corporate nonsense," Chen said, rolling his eyes.
The meeting was predictably mind-numbing, with Mr. Zhang droning on about KPIs and ROI while Li Wei's mind wandered back to the Dao System. As the meeting dragged on, his phone buzzed again.
"Lesson five: Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom," the system chimed.
Li Wei snorted, quickly covering it up with a cough when Mr. Zhang shot him a glare. "Sorry, just... clearing my throat," he mumbled.
Finally, the meeting ended, and Li Wei escaped back to his desk. The day continued in a blur of code, emails, and caffeine, with the Dao System occasionally chiming in with nuggets of wisdom that seemed hilariously out of place in the corporate environment.
By the time Li Wei got home, he was exhausted but strangely more at peace than he'd felt in a long time. He flopped onto his couch, scrolling through his phone as Mr. Whiskers curled up next to him.
"Alright, Dao System. Hit me with another one," he said, feeling a weird sense of camaraderie with the mystical app.
"Lesson six: The wise man does not lay up treasures. The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own," the system replied.
"Are you suggesting I give away my paycheck? Because that's not happening," Li Wei laughed.
"Not quite. But perhaps you could start by giving a little more kindness and patience," the system suggested.
Li Wei thought about the chaos at work, the stressed-out faces of his coworkers, and the constant pressure from Mr. Zhang. Maybe a little more kindness and patience wouldn't be such a bad idea.
"Alright, wise guy. I'll give it a shot," he said, yawning. "But first, I need sleep. Even sages need their beauty rest."
"Good night, Li Wei. May your dreams be filled with the wisdom of the Dao," the system replied, sounding genuinely serene.
As Li Wei drifted off to sleep, his phone softly glowing on the bedside table, he couldn't help but smile. His life had taken a bizarre turn, but maybe, just maybe, it was exactly what he needed. And who knows? Maybe tomorrow he'd finally master that tree pose without looking like he was about to topple over.
