"Hey Mom" a little boy's voice echoes.
"Yes Munchkin?" A soft feminine voice responded.
"Promise me we're going to be together foreverrrrrrrr and everrrrr" he said.
"I promise sweetie" she said smiling at the little boy.
"Just McKean and Mom, the unstoppable duo forever and everrrr" a younger looking Trisha continued kissing him on his cheek.
Everything went pitch black. "Hey Kean!" a faint voice called out.
"Kean! Kean!! Wake up! Please Kean!" Trisha kept on yelling.
Kean gradually regained consciousness, a tinnitus kept ringing in his ears as he regained his consciousness, his vision became clearer. He is soaked in blood, with cuts and bruises all over his body. He touches his head and feels the open wound close to his right eye, which stung.
"Argh! Mom? Mom!! Mom are you Okay?" Kean said, groaning.
The rain had stopped, he looks around him and he sees the truck on fire.
"Kean, listen to me okay? Your Dad—" Trisha paused as she takes a deep breath.
"Your dad isn't breathing anymore! I.. I think he's dead" Trisha spouted in one breath.
"Huh?" Kean said staring in disbelief as he tries to check on his father.
The sight of his father's body resting on the steering with one of his eyeball popped out, swinging like a pendulum was horrifying.
Trisha tried to shield Kean from the traumatizing view right in front of him. "Kean! Don't look, listen baby right now, I need you to be strong for me okay?" She said.
"Try kicking the backseat door with your legs to open it" she instructed.
Kean hits one, hits twice, huffing and puffing trying as much as possible to ignore the pain and fear that was coursing through his body. He manages to kick the door open and crawls out of the bashed car.
While trying to regain his composure, he attempts to force open the front door where Trisha was seated too to help her get out as well.
The door was jammed and Kean being in the weakest state had barely any energy left to pull anymore.
"Stop! Don't try pulling me out, Munchkin I need you to be really strong okay?"
She was trapped in the car and was losing a lot of blood. She couldn't feel her legs anymore and could barely move.
On the brink of losing consciousness, and mustering some strength, she said to Kean, "Please honey, go without me, I beg of you". With tears running down her cheeks, and in a complete hopeless state, Trisha was ready to let go of it all.
Kean stared at her confusingly and shouted back, "No! What are you talking about mom! I'm gonna get you out of here, I promise okay?"
Deep down, Kean had no idea how he was going to do it, he was tired and parched, running out of breath and his wounds kept stinging.
"Look Kean, listen to me, you have to go. You can't help me and I don't want you to lose your life while trying to save mine."
A fire had started right in front of the car and the smell of gas filled the air.
"Please honey GO!" She let out a cry.
She pulls Kean close to give her final embrace as he planted a kiss on his head.
"I'm sorry your dad and I couldn't give you the life you always wanted, I'm sorry I couldn't live up to my promise.. haha literally." She said and they both shared a brief moment of laughter. Coming back to reality, she pushes Mckean out of her arms away from the disaster.
Rolling over on the floor, downhill, Kean watched as the car exploded and went up in flames right before his eyes.
"Noooooooo!", Kean screamed at the top of his voice, with tears breaking out of his eyes. "Mom!!!, Mom, you promised", he said.
Kean kept sobbing and memories of his mum and dad flashed before his eyes and with last breath he spoke in a low voice, "you and I , remember? Forever?".
With his wounds left open and blood still seeping from his body, he lost all energy he had left and collapsed.
A faint sound of a siren is heard from the background and a group of officers are inspecting the scene of the accident.
"Chief, the boy is alive, but is unconscious and in need of immediate medical attention" a lady said.
"Move along with the paramedics to see that the boy is taken to the hospital immediately" the chief instructed.
"Yes sir!" the lady responded as she left.
"Make sure to check if there are any more survivors!" the chief instructed the other officers in the scene.
"No sir! Both the truck driver, a man and a woman were all found dead, the boy is the only survivor" the officer said.
"I presume the man and woman are the boy's parents? the chief officer asked.
"Most likely sir" the officer responded.
"Well, that's a shame", the chief said to himself.
Kean is lifted up, placed on a stretcher and put into an ambulance. He is placed on life support immediately with a nurse keeping an eye on him, as he is rushed to the hospital.
