"Something on your mind?"
He turned the steering wheel as he asked, concerned.
Ming Qu cleared her throat and corrected her posture, but she didn't return his gaze.
His eyes falling to the document bag on her lap, Gu Yuzhen guessed what must have happened.
It was not until the car had stopped at the villa that Ming Qu finally came back to her senses.
"Aren't you sending me home?"
"You promised to have dinner with me, but you kept postponing it."
He was not in a hurry to exit the car, and leaned closer. "As far as I know, you don't like that home much anyway."
Ming Qu turned her eyes and looked at him with a smile. At that moment, she felt as if she did not know him.
Thinking back to the time when she had first seen him at the villa in France, she had always thought that they would just go their separate ways.
"I still have things to attend to, so I've got no choice but to stay there for the time being."
Ming Qu retracted her gaze, looking grim.
Gu Yuzhen raised his hand to hold her chin before kissing her assertively.
Ming Qu froze. She thought of struggling, but his hand was holding her firmly.
It was a while before he reluctantly left her lips and spoke in a serious manner. "Marry me and be my Mrs. Gu."
Ming Qu thought she must have misheard as her mouth hung open wide.
On the next day, Gu Yuzhen went to see the Ming family.
Ming Qu had just returned from work. Seeing the man who was seated on the sofa, suspicion rose in her heart.
She had originally thought that he was here to look for her when unexpectedly, Father Ming appeared from upstairs without even giving her a single glance.
When the man on the sofa noticed her, however, he stood up.
Ming Qu shot him an indifferent look and walked up the stairs.
She was cross that he had come to her house without warning.
However, just as she returned to her room, she felt that something was off. She quickly left her room again without taking the time to change.
Reaching the staircase, she heard Ming Lai say coyly downstairs, "President Gu, you're such an outstanding man, but you've been living in France all the while. I was wondering why I had never heard of you."
Father Ming's voice followed politely. "Since your family is in France, why have you suddenly switched over to the domestic market?"
When it was Gu Yuzhen's turn to speak, Ming Qu's ears pricked up as she listened carefully.
"Business matters are hard to explain. The forefathers of the Gu family have been based in Tong City for generations. Now, as an heir, I feel that I should also return to make a contribution."
"Haha, is that so? That sounds good."
By the corner of the stairs, Ming Qu quietly listened to the slander. This man had come to the Ming family. Could it really be that he wanted to work with Ming Zhicheng on some project?
The more she listened, the more uninterested she became. She turned around and went back to her room.
Gu Yuzhen stayed for dinner.
Ming Qu didn't know if this had been his intention or if there was some other reason.
During dinner, he sat beside her. Ming Lai saw this and sat on the other side of Gu Yuzhen.
Mother and Father Ming noticed this. They exchanged a look.
"Why are you here?"
Ming Qu asked casually as she ate.
The man beside her chewed slowly, but he only smiled without saying a word.
Ming Lai didn't dare to be presumptuous at the dinner table, but just as they were about to finish, she asked out of nowhere, "When did President Gu and sister meet?"
When she had asked this, the Ming parents also turned to look at him.
Ming Qu peeked at Ming Lai, looking past Gu Yuzhen.
Looking for trouble, huh!
"Sister, as a bride-to-be, you better not worry about such matters."
Ming Qu's words immediately choked her.
As there was a guest, Ming Lai couldn't refute and could only endure it.
Father Ming, afraid that the situation would turn dire, dispersed them early.
By then, Ming Qu had finally understood that Gu Yuzhen hadn't come for no reason, but he had been invited by her father. However, at the dinner table, Ming Lai's words hadn't seemed to have surprised or puzzled her parents.
It looked like things weren't so simple.
Since it had been Ming Zhicheng who had invited him, she didn't want to act recklessly.
She left the dining room and went straight upstairs to rest.
She did not notice as the man's gaze followed her. He had expected her to see him off. Instead, she had ignored him completely and gone upstairs.
Gu Yuzhen's expression didn't look pleased. Ming Qu's sharp-eyed father sensed that something was afoot, but he only smiled and kept silent. In his mind, however, he was already putting the pieces together.
Ming Qu had just returned, and now an heir of the mysterious Gu family had suddenly returned to Tong City. In that period, they must have had some kind of hidden relationship.
