#Chapter23
The thrust of the jet engines push Juliana back in her window seat as the South African Airways 747-400 gathers speed and the nose comes up, the rear wheels leave the surface of the runway, and the aircraft is airborne, leaving Durban and Assegai Safari’s dropping rapidly behind in its wake as it climbs to its cruising level. The pilot sets course for Cape Town, and then an 11-hour direct flight across Africa back into the loving arms of her family in Genoa, Italy and hopefully, news on the fourth member of the gang that took her life away.
As Table Mountain drops far behind the departing aircraft, leaving Cape Town and South Africa shimmering in the distance Juliana puts her head back, closes her eyes, and allows the memories to flood her mind, shutting out all sounds around her, reaching out to Paul, needing to feel his presence, needing his touch and comfort.
