Chapter 33: Crazy Plan?
"On the cliffs beneath the snow-capped mountains, any traces will soon be covered by snow, leaving no sign of life or death. Even if someone had been there, they wouldn't have left any noticeable evidence. You were mistaken to give him hope."
Peggy spoke firmly from the side.
Thor nodded. "I wanted to give him some comfort in the end, let him leave with peace of mind..."
After observing the events, he knew that neither Steve nor Bucky would die but would continue their story seventy years later...
"What about that young girl? If I'm not mistaken, she's from the Soviet Union, right? And she's certainly not an ordinary child."
Peggy turned to look at him.
Thor briefly explained Natalia's background.
"She's a child rescued from the Red Room. Despite her youth, she excels in many areas. If properly trained, her potential could rival Steve's."
While Thor's combat experience was top-notch, he wasn't as skilled in assassination and stealth. Though he could train Natalia as a fighter, it would be a waste of her potential. He preferred to leave her training to Peggy.
"However, I must remind you that her abilities extend beyond her appearance."
The Black Widow's presence might lead many to underestimate her. With her striking looks, tasks could often be easier for her. Thor didn't want Natalia to follow the same path she did in history. It would be no different from the Red Room.
Peggy Carter understood his concern and shot him a disapproving look. She suspected that Thor had ulterior motives for his interest in the girl.
…
The fall of Red Skull meant that the Allies had resolved their final major issue on the European front.
The subsequent war became one-sided, with the front lines continually approaching the enemy's headquarters. Meanwhile, the Soviet forces, enraged and relentless, launched a vigorous counterattack, putting the enemy in grave danger.
With HYDRA's defeat, Peggy Carter, an agent, had little reason to stay on the battlefield. She returned to the United States with Natalia, accompanied by Thor.
Colonel Phillips had issued Donald Blake's discharge papers due to his extended absence. Technically, Thor was no longer an army member.
With the war winding down, there was little reason to keep them. Thor had no intention of dealing with military bureaucracy, so they left together.
Donald Blake's name was ultimately marked as that of a fallen soldier.
…
"System, didn't you just mention about using brain to complete task ?"
On a leisurely afternoon, Thor lounged in a deck chair, watching Peggy train Natalia nearby, while lazily addressing the System.
The System's assassination missions had shown zero progress.
Months had passed since leaving the battlefield. The European front had ended with the Allies stopping just short of the enemy's last stronghold. The Soviet forces had successfully confronted their adversaries.
That meant, if he wanted to continue his mission, he would need to look to the Pacific theater.
The problem was that the Pacific theater was primarily a naval and aerial conflict.
Although bombing from planes seemed efficient, planes were incredibly expensive and not easily accessible!
He lacked the qualifications and expertise to fly a fighter plane; at best, he would be involved in logistics, which wouldn't help his mission.
The System said faintly, "I have a plan that might sound a bit crazy..."
"Go ahead."
The System hesitated before continuing, "The Manhattan Project will succeed in just over a month. I believe this kind of weapon of mass destruction should not appear in this world so soon. At least, it shouldn't be used in this war."
"What do you mean?!" Thor's voice grew serious.
