Chapter 246
Hela was truly relishing the battle, or more accurately, she was delighting in the act of killing.
The Sovereigns had never experienced such desperation and terror as they did today. They watched helplessly as the woman, emanating a dreadful aura of death, single-handedly annihilated their once-proud drone army.
The Sovereigns were a technologically advanced planet, and their drones were renowned for their performance. They could even engage in combat with ancient empires like Xandar and the Kree.
However, the opponent they faced was a formidable force. Hela performed a devastating version of "Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin," with black flying swords striking their targets with relentless precision.
Within minutes, the control room screens displayed the message "Game Over."
"Reconnect, load backup fighters..."
Fighter planes emerged from the armory, but Hela advanced towards them with determination.
In less than half an hour, their drone inventory was depleted!
The Sovereigns were horrified to discover that Hela had returned, followed by a large group of various undead creatures with eerie green lights in their eyes, charging towards them.
The leader among these undead was the very one who had hired the Guardians of the Galaxy to kill two days ago.
Some of the monster corpses were incomplete, so Hela had crudely reassembled several of them, frightening the usually arrogant Sovereigns into submission.
They were unaware that in another world, this would be referred to as pure hatred...
...
"There is no need to kill them all. If you do, no one will be willing to surrender in the future. Accept their technology and resource inventory, make them submit to Asgard forever, and establish our garrison!"
"Understood. Since you have experience with these details, you can handle it yourself."
Thor granted Hela considerable authority and was confident that nothing would go awry.
In a world where personal strength could determine the outcome of a war, all power was ultimately contingent on the ability to enforce it. As a king, Thor could afford to be a hands-off leader, unconcerned about being sidelined due to his strength.
Conversely, a king who lacked the power to control his subordinates would find his efforts futile, regardless of how diligent he was.
That was why, despite even with if Loki being Odin's biological son, odin would never have chosen him.
Thor ended the call and gazed out the window.
A planet with a peculiar red hue against a deep blue background came into view. It was much smaller than Earth, roughly the size of the Moon.
This was the location of Ego's true form.
It became evident that while Ego might be foolish, he was not entirely clueless.
With Thor's enhanced vision, he could clearly see the planet's continental plates shifting and some surface rifts slowly closing.
Thor hoped that there would be no unexpected surprises.
He was correct in his assumption. Although Ego was arrogant, he was aware that Thor's strength posed a threat. While Ego believed no one else knew his vulnerabilities, he was prepared for the worst. His brain, the core of his planetary form, was in constant danger.
To safeguard his home, Ego had taken preventive measures.
...
"Everyone."
After stepping out of his spacecraft, Ego surveyed his planet with pride, spreading his arms wide and saying, "Welcome to my world."
"Wow!"
"Wow, incredible!"
"You actually have your own planet?"
Star-Lord and the others were in awe of the world filled with flowers, towering ancient trees, mountains, and waters. Even Thor couldn't help but marvel at the fairy-tale beauty of the planet!
Whether human or god, showing off seemed to be an innate trait. Ego smiled faintly and remained modest: "It's no big deal. It's not even as large as Earth's Moon!"
"Oh, how humble!" Drax exclaimed. "I am also a humble person!"
No one paid much attention to Drax's stubbornness; the scenery had captured their attention.
Ego, smiling subtly, led everyone onto a crescent-shaped boat that floated gracefully towards a magnificent castle.
Despite the breathtaking scenery, Gamora, trained as a warrior by Thanos, remained vigilant. She asked cautiously, "You own a planet and can control every plant and tree on it at will. So, who are you?"
Without even turning his head, Ego replied, "I can answer your question: I am a god!"
As they moved, he continued, "I don't know where I came from. All I remember is a flash of light, floating alone in the void of the universe. After millions, perhaps tens of millions of years, I learned to control the surrounding molecules. As I grew more intelligent and powerful, I began absorbing matter, encasing myself layer by layer until I became the planet you see."
"So, you can say this is my planet, but it's more accurate to say that I am the planet and the planet is me."
Ego took pride in his origins, revealing everything without reservation.
In his view, apart from Star-Lord, who was destined to be his pawn, the rest were unlikely to survive. Therefore, there was no need for pretense.
"So, you started as a head and over countless years, transformed into a planet?" Drax asked innocently.
Ego's mouth twitched.
As expected, this race is primitive. I'll let you enjoy this moment and then use you as fertilizer for my flowers!
"So, Quill is a second-generation god like Thor! Cool, but he doesn't seem like one at all!" Rocket commented, looking at Thor and then at Star-Lord.
In Rocket's mind, the offspring of a god should resemble Thor, but Star-Lord seemed far from impressive.
On the other hand, Gamora's expression shifted as she recalled her past wish to find a partner who was a second-generation god capable of singing and dancing. Was Star-Lord really what she had envisioned?
