Chapter 228
The dark basement was completely different from the rooms upstairs. It exuded an eerie and ominous atmosphere.
The walls were no longer the typical American-style construction but were replaced with old bluestone slabs, covered with dry vines.
Wanda slowed her pace, instinctively sensing that this place was unusual.
"Agnes? Agnes?"
The silence was absolute. Wanda called out twice, but all she heard was her own echo.
Her instincts told her something was wrong, but confident in her abilities, she continued inside, her vigilance heightened.
Turning the last corner, Wanda found a large book emitting a faint light.
"Bang..."
The door behind her slammed shut, and a familiar yet sarcastic voice rang out. "You don't think you're the only one in town who can do magic, do you?"
Agnes sneered, emerging from behind a pillar while cradling a puppy in her arms.
She was no longer the warm neighbor but had transformed into a stereotypical evil witch from the movies...
Wanda surveyed the room with an emotionless expression, noting the various traces of spells scattered around.
"So, you spent all this time just to set this up?" Wanda asked.
Agnes didn't answer directly. Instead, she said, "Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Agatha Harkness."
"Click…"
With a flick of her wrist, Agatha strangled the puppy to death.
"Well... after hundreds of years, this disgusting thing still repulses me."
She discarded the lifeless body as though it were insignificant.
Medieval witches' aversion to dogs wasn't just a legend...
Agatha's eyes grew cold. "Now, let's talk."
"There's nothing to discuss between us!" Wanda's eyes glowed red as she swung her hands in anger.
But… nothing happened!
Wanda stared at her hands in disbelief.
"Ah, your magic is useless here!" Agatha's mocking smile grew.
She waved her hand, and a circle of magic runes appeared on the walls around them.
"Basic defensive spells. One on each wall. Don't you recognize them at all? It seems your magic is quite unrefined."
Feeling she had the upper hand, Agatha continued, "In a space with set spells, only the witch who created them can cast magic. How could you not know this basic knowledge?"
She extended her hand forward, and an invisible force bound Wanda, lifting her off the ground with no resistance.
"You know, I was patient, ready to wait for you to reveal yourself slowly. But I didn't expect you to be so powerful yet waste all your focus on men."
As she spoke, she turned a cricket into a black cat with a flash of deep purple light.
"See? It took me hundreds of years to make people believe in the simplest illusion. But you, without realizing it, took control of the entire town. Everything operates like a real world, with every detail perfect! Tell me, how did you do it?"
Wanda replied blankly, "I don't know."
"Don't know? It seems you're not going to cooperate. Since that's the case, I'll have to change my approach."
Agatha's smile vanished, replaced by a ferocious expression. She pulled a strand of Wanda's hair, chanted a spell, and activated a mysterious incantation.
In Wanda's surprised gaze, her deepest memories began to project in playback...
...
"Hey, black-eyed freak, if you have nothing to do, get out of the way. If someone didn't know better, they'd think there was a zombie apocalypse!"
Facing a group of degenerates, including Casillas, who were blocking the door and clearly had ill intentions, Daisy spoke rudely and directly.
Damn, you're a bunch of ugly monsters. It's not your fault you're ugly, but it's wrong to come out and scare people!
Casillas ignored her and turned to the female follower. "Is this the place?"
The follower, looking at the magic item in her hand glowing brightly, nodded. "It's here, but I don't know the exact location."
Casillas nodded. "It doesn't matter; just take care of it!"
A young follower cast a spell, summoning a golden energy whip that descended toward Daisy's head.
If she were hit, her mortal body would likely be split in half.
"Boom..."
A metallic clang echoed as the energy whip struck a black pot lid. The immense recoil sent the follower flying.
Lorelai pulled Daisy away, retreating.
The energy from the attack caused the magic on the pot lid to fade, revealing an iconic shield in the daylight.
"Oh, who's that? It turns out to be the so-called Avengers? Let me show you what true power looks like!"
A massive energy axe appeared in Casillas's hand.
"It seems this person with the Horror Eyes is very confident?" Stark sneered, activating his chest device.
Red metal plates spread from his chest, covering his entire body.
"What's this?"
Steve looked puzzled, having never seen such a transformation before. It was truly extraordinary!
Stark proudly explained, "This is my latest creation—the nano armor! It started as a mere idea, but I didn't expect it to become a reality in this world."
He sighed, reflecting that this virtual world's relaxed rules allowed him to take shortcuts. Once out of the illusion, this armor would cease to exist.
Nevertheless, this experience could significantly advance the future research in nanotechnology.
