The sudden arrival of Axel made me think that something might be wrong with him. I thought he might have come to apologize for his father's insult to me the other day. But upon reflection, it seemed unlikely that an arrogant person would apologize first, so I began to wonder. If he was planning something unknown to me. Eventually, I concluded that Axel might be about to reveal the truth to my parents, prompting me to quickly run to where he was in my house.
When I arrived, I saw Axel silent, then suddenly smiling, much like my father. I didn't understand the reason behind his smile, making me look confused. My mother with a different expression, approached me and asked me to go back to my room. This only added to my confusion. She insisted, pushing me to return to my room. I, obedient at that moment, hurriedly went back to my room.
To my surprise, when I looked in the mirror, I saw a disheveled and pale face without makeup, messy hair, a slightly torn sweater on one shoulder, and basketball pants that made me look frightened.
"What? What's wrong with me? Is this me? Why am I presenting myself like this? Oh no! Is this going to be a joke for that Old Man? Oh, Summer, what have you done?" I said.
I quickly changed my appearance. Somehow, it seemed like I was revealing my Bad side, which Axel might later use to mock me. I regretted it because a minute ago, I rushed out without thinking about my appearance. "Oh, if only I could turn back time," I said again with Regret.
After fixing my appearance, I went back to Axel, who was talking to my parents. He looked silent, then suddenly smiled, just like my father. It seemed that this time there was no problem, I thought. So, I sat directly in front of Axel. We exchanged glances for a few seconds as if I were questioning his sudden arrival. Axel responded by raising his shoulders as if implying something.
"So, why did Axel come here suddenly like this? Did you plan it? Or maybe there's something else?" my father broke the silence. "Actually—" Axel started, but I abruptly cut him off. "We're going out; he came to pick me up. Isn't that right, Axel?" I said while looking at Axel with a panicked expression. "Oh, that's how it is. Why did you go out with the appearance like earlier?" my mother continued my words. "Haha, yes, ma'am, I forgot," I replied.
I looked anxious and sweaty, not because I had caught a cold but because I started to get nervous about what Axel was about to say. I tried to cut him off again, but this Time, Axel disagreed and interrupted me.
"Wait, Summer, please don't interrupt me. " Axel said, suddenly creating a silent atmosphere as my parents looked puzzled at him. I remained motionless, momentarily bewitched by Axel's earlier words. "Alright, go on, dear," my mother asked Axel to continue his words.
I hoped that Axel wouldn't expose our charade at this moment. Not because I liked him or maybe didn't want to end it. I did want to end it first, but I wanted this to end amicably just between The Two of us, without involving my parents. I thought they didn't need to know about something that would hurt both their hearts. As Axel began to speak again, my heart started pounding, not because I fell in love with him, but because I was afraid my parents wouldn't accept The fact that all this was just a charade.
"Firstly, I apologize for my sudden arrival here. It's because Summer ignored my calls and messages, and I couldn't tolerate that," Axel explained. Hearing that made my mother pat my right thigh with her hand. I was almost screaming in surprise.
"Oh, that's how it is. Forgive this child. She has never dated before. Maybe she thinks it's normal, making you hurt. I'll always remind her, don't worry, Axel, " my mother said, sounding a bit pitiful. I started to get annoyed hearing that. "That's not what I meant, Aunt," Axel replied. My mother began to look at Axel with confusion. "Then?" she asked again.
"I want to ask for permission to marry Summer soon," Axel confidently said.
Instantly, my mother was shocked and widened her eyes. She seemed both unbelieving and believing in what Axel said, just like me. I was shocked to hear it. In other words, Axel was proposing to me right now. "What's wrong with this? Why is it like this? There was no notification to me beforehand? Why is he acting recklessly again? Shouldn't he apologize first for his father?" I muttered to myself.
"Wait a minute," my mother said suddenly. "This is very sudden, Summer. You're not pregnant, are you?" she asked suspiciously, looking at me. "Of course not!" I exclaimed. "Not like that, Aunt, it's just that I can't stand being apart from Summer for too long, especially if Summer always ignores me," Axel sweetly said in front of my parents.
My father and mother began to smile. It was evident from my mother's face that she had longed for me to get married. How happy she was when someone suddenly proposed to me like this. Unlike me, I looked shocked to hear what had just come out of that arrogant man's mouth. "Before my mother goes crazy, I better talk to her first," I said to myself. I stood up, approached Axel, and pulled his arm. "Forgive me, Aunt, I have to talk to him first," I said, forcing Axel to follow me.
From my mother's expression, it seemed like she was so delighted that she started to be friendly and smiled broadly, like someone who had just won the lottery. I took Axel out to talk to him.
"What's wrong with you? Coming here and creating such a commotion?" I asked angrily. "Come on, just go with the flow. Didn't we have an agreement before?" Axel replied. "Y-Yes, we did, but I was just about to cancel it," I responded. "Why? What's wrong?" Axel asked Surprised. "I don't think I can continue this agreement anymore," I said without explaining.
