Unfair Circumstances

Many years after they have been doing well, picking up the pieces of their broken lives, an unfair incident occurred which almost took Margaret's life but ended her in coma.

She got involved in a car fatal accident which failed break and knocked her down badly, left her almost dead.

She was admitted and was charged for deposit before she could be attended to. Someone paid for the deposit because he had pity for her condition at that moment.

Few minutes after treatment has been commenced on her, Charles arrived in tears, looking so tourtured.

He cried like a kid, few people who were around consoled him and demanded that he put himself together. The storm later became over and the doctor demanded to see him in her office.

He was notified that his wife's deposit fee has been paid but he still needs to pay for drugs and other treatments.

"Your wife's hospital bill in total is twenty six million naira", doctor Britney said looking into Charles' eyes.

"Twe... Doctor, please isn't there a way you can help me beat the prize down, it is too much for me."Charles said stammering.

Within the short period of time they've worked for, they weren't able to save such amount of money. Their savings put up together was eighteen point eight million naira.

Margaret was getting better until the doctor disclosed to them that she can't walk anymore. Her life was shattered and Charles was hurt emotionally. He couldn't bear the thought of seeing his wife sit on a wheelchair.

"This wasn't what we planned," he cried out.

"It is not my fault", she also cried out.

Immediately Charles heard her say such words, he went on his knees close to her bed and said, "no honey, I am not blaming you", he kissed her hand and began to say encouraging words to her until after the scene.

While at his work place, it tells on him that he thinks a lot and he looks tortured emotionally.

A lady who came to buy car from their auto mobile stand, noticed him and got close to him with some questionings.

He wasn't interested until she said she would help if he was able to disclose his problems. He starred at her for a while and then said, my wife is going through a lot and I am almost not up to the task to help her.

"Her medical bill is too much, we've been able to raise eighteen point eight million, but the rest is hard for me to raise because I don't know how."

After a brief explanation about his family, she offered him a cheque of ten million naira to go foot his wife's medical bill.

"Just like that?" he asked in surprise.

"Yes, just like that" she answered smiling."

She continued, "here is my card, I would like for you to come to my house using the address on the card to come say me an appreciation."

She said stretching her hand with the card to Charles. He collected it and promised to show up when at his little leisure.

After closure from work that day, he went straight to the hospital to finish the payment, got her a wheelchair and some beverages.

Margaret asked how he came about with the money but he told her it was a long story and covered it up with the words "what God can not do does not exist,"this made Margaret to give up with the questionings.

After a month and some weeks, she was discharged. Charles was already getting tired of taking care of a crippled wife, doing chores and cooking.

He gets angry at any given opportunity and beats her like a slave. There was no respect or peace of mind in their marriage anymore.

Sometimes he would think of how to get away from the house to have rest of mind as he fondly call it. One day, he came across the complementary card he was given at his work by a lady, he thought it would be nice if he goes visiting her.

After some while of his entanglement with Amber Rose.

He thought of making his infidelity lifestyle open to his wife.

Anytime she tried to talk, he would shout at her mercilessly.

"Are you the first woman to be crippled?" Why not let me rest for a while this useless woman?"

"You must mind yourself and mind your stay in this house because your days are numbered in this house, what's your problem for Christ's sake?"

"Nonsense," he said and left her presence while they were arguing.

Margaret had felt it that he had become tired of taking care of her but she wasn't sure of her thought because she thought it could be stress.

"Is it my fault that I am in this situation?"

"Didn't I try my best when it was his turn?"

"Why is Charles treating me like an outsider?"

She questioned herself in tears using her right hand to support her chin in the foundation of her right arm wheel.

It got to the extent that he cooks for only himself without thinking of how she would fix food for herself.

But she always tries not to get on his nerves to avoid being beaten as usual.

When he finishes eating, he would shamelessly call his side chick in front of his wife.

"How are you my vibrant angel?"

He asked crossing his leg on another, sinking into their long couch and smiling so peacefully.

Their conversation would go on but he didn't care what the wife would feel or do. After all, men are allowed and entitled to marry as many wives as possible if they want.

His mind tells him that. He is right anyway, but not at the expense of his first wife's life or happiness. It never occurred to him that he is playing with fire that will burn him real bad.

Amber Rose was unfair enough to have been interested in someone's husband. Taking advantage of him when he needed help.

Charles all of a sudden thought it was wise to follow or go down with one that doesn't have a problem. Forgetting that problems that humans face makes them who they become at some end.
