Chapter 25: Proposal

Max initially paid little heed when waitress Ana informed him in the morning about an incident and Baron Adolf's potential decision to close down the inn if he remained dissatisfied.

However, Max's indifference took a turn when he began to grasp the prestige and fame associated with the role of a Mana chef. This newfound awareness led him to question why Edward was engaging in a polite conversation with the Baron.

The query flickered in his mind but didn't linger. After all, what was the advantage of delving into matters that had no direct relevance to him? The answer seemed unequivocal: none.

Yet, when Edward finally broached the topic with Max, his curiosity was piqued once again. Max was relieved that Edward hadn't summoned him to his room to discuss the bathroom incident, but the mention of the conversation between Edward and the Baron left him with a lingering sense of intrigue.

"Max, let me shed some light on the intricate web of associations within the Aidenian society," Edward began with a thoughtful expression.

"All these associations, including the prestigious Magic Association, ultimately fall under the authority of the World Council. This council is unique because its current head also leads the Magic Association. A century ago, the Chef Association was relatively obscure, with few acknowledging its existence. However, the emergence of mana chefs turned everything around dramatically."

Edward paused for a moment to let the significance of his words sink in. "Mana chefs are no longer mere culinary experts; they have ascended to a level where they are highly valued and respected, often being regarded as mages themselves.

Yet, it's crucial to understand that mana chefs, at their core, are still mages who have chosen the culinary path. This dual role places them in a unique position, where they belong, to some extent, to both the Chef Association and the Magic Association."

Edward's eyes carried a weight of experience as he continued. "In my case, despite my status as a mana chef and my noble title as a baron, I am a 1st circle magician, while Baron Adlof holds the esteemed position of a 2nd circle magician. This difference in our magical proficiency dictates a certain level of respect and protocol, even if it comes tinged with a touch of regret on my part. But dwelling on these sentiments won't change the situation; it's a reality I've come to accept."

Max's gratitude shone in his eyes as he nodded appreciatively. "Thank you, Master," he replied, understanding the significance of Edward's guidance and mentorship in his journey to becoming a mana chef.

"But the reason I asked you here is related to Count Francisco," Edward said, his tone serious and contemplative.

Max, intrigued by Edward's serious tone, leaned in attentively. "What is it about Count Francisco?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.

"When you left the kitchen this morning, I was in a meeting with Baron and Count. Count Francisco expressed his desire to have me serve as a mana chef at his son's upcoming wedding. However, due to my health condition, I had to decline the offer.

The reason it's significant is because the wedding will take place in our country, specifically in Moonshadow City, which is about 20 miles from here. Ha, I think you don't know what is a country right? Just to clarify the political structure in Aiden, a king rules a kingdom, a duke governs a dukedom, and the same wise a count oversees a country.

Given the circumstances, I suggested to Baron Adlof and Count Francisco that they appoint you as the mana chef for the occasion."

Max was taken aback, feeling like he might be caught up in some sort of elaborate joke. The magnitude of the opportunity was sinking in. Being chosen as the mana chef for a noble wedding, especially one involving the offspring of a count and a baron, was no small matter. Max took a deep breath and responded, "Master Edward, I am deeply honored and willing to accept this responsibility. I will do my best to live up to your expectations and create a culinary experience that will be remembered by all."

Edward nodded approvingly. "I have faith in your abilities, Max. We will start your training for this event tomorrow. There's much to prepare, and I believe you have the potential to shine as a mana chef. This opportunity will be a turning point in your culinary journey."
