He needs mastery or experience of this art for more than decades or so. That is, he needs that much time to merge two energies together from the microscopic level. Not just microscopic level, even lower to sub-atomic level.
But he has his own A.I. and he is kind of a genius too. So he might take a lot less than those noob who took more than ten years. He doesn't believe in 'Practice makes a man perfect'. He believes 'Only perfect practice makes a man perfect'.
