Chapter 29: Sports
After being shuffled to an upscale cafe, I watched the siblings interact as though they were any ordinary family on a random weekday morning. They shared food and laughed about growing up together, taking turns at trying to embarrass the other by bringing up anecdotes. I took it all in, enjoying the intimate breakfast.
“Okay, so if you played softball,” I said to Gia, tilting my glass in her direction before turning to Elliot, “And you played soccer..”
“Football,” he corrected. “And I still do when I have the time.” Gia rolled her eyes and downed her mimosa, signaling for another.
I continued, “Sorry, so softball, football,” I motioned toward Yujin with a curious smile, “What did you play?”
Both of their siblings looked at them with muted smiles. It was obvious they wanted to say something, but to my surprise they showed restraint. Yujin leaned back in their chair, pursing their lips looking displeased with the inquiry.
