Chapter 22: Questions

Gia’s words were cold and calculated, eyes locked on the door in front of us. “There were no survivors, including the alleged attacker. I’m sure you probably met Sergio, right?” I nodded, staring at the door in front of us. We waited for a short moment, then she continued. “Since all the signs point to it being one of Yuyu’s guys, they’re trying to pin the attack on them. Which is why we need to get out of the city before word gets out.”

Yujin called from outside the door, “We’re clear, let’s go.”

Without skipping a beat, Gia quickly led me out the door and toward her car, directing me to the backseat. We piled in as Yujin kept watch, then they slipped in once the engine roared to a start. Gia took off down the road while her sibling kept a close eye on the mirrors. We rode in tense silence, and I felt more than a little useless in being the only person without a role to play.
