Made To Be Shown: Chapter 14

-Dot-

As soon as the sun peeked over the horizon and I felt the first warmth of the day, I woke. Waya said we wouldn't have classes today, but at least I still had the tablet. Sluggishly, I tugged the comforter to the recliner near the window and settled in to bask in the sun while watching something on the device.

There was a variety of videos I could choose from. They were much more interesting to watch than the videos the caretakers seldom showed us, like the one that told us we'd eventually be given to someone. We'd seen it a few times back home, so we all new what our lives were supposed to be like; given to someone who would take care of us in exchange for anything they wanted… I shivered at the thought.

Some of the Omegas looked forward to it, and maybe it sounded better than living with the caretakers, but it didn't seem much different than what Vilkas wanted so I always imagined I would end up with him. But so far, living here was nothing like any of us ever imagined.

I scrolled through the library of videos, barely paying attention, when a soft knock came from the door.

"Come in," I called without looking up. Conri usually showed up around this time for a meal.

"Hello Kitten." The gravelly voice made my stomach somersault.

I froze and looked up to see the big Alpha who I belonged to. He stood blocking the entire doorway and carried two different plates in one hand, and a glass of juice in the other. He laid them on the table near the bed and was poised to exit when a staccato chiming blared from the tablet.

I looked down to see the screen turn black, and when I tried to turn it back on, nothing happened. I let out a quiet whine as I continued to press buttons, hoping something would work.

The Alpha snorted, so I threw a glare at him. He shook his head patronizingly, and I let out a gentle hiss. Though I felt a wide array of confusing emotions about him, that didn't mean I had to be nice to him.

"No battery." He said boredly with a slight lilt to his lips. "It needs to charge."

I didn't know what that meant, so I just stared at him with a sour face. He snorted again, but proceeded to rummage through my discarded backpack that laid on the floor near the bed. He pulled out a long cord and showed it to me with a raised brow.

"It needs to charge." I repeated, and Waya's instructions suddenly sprang to mind as I remembered what those words meant.

I grimaced and hesitantly approached him. I didn't like feeling stupid and it seemed like he was laughing at me. Instead of thanking him, I merely snatched the cord from his outstretched hand.

It took me a few moments to remember how to plug it up, but I was pleased that I could do it myself. Still though, when I pressed the button to turn it on, only a rectangle half filled with red blinked on the screen. Did I do it wrong?

"It'll take a little time." The Alpha explained plainly. I huffed and shot him yet another glare with clenched hands. He leaned against the open doorway and watched me with a stony face, but the way his eyes danced with humor made me realize he must have thought my sour mood was funny. I growled at him venomously.

Instead of retaliating any way, he rose from his leaning position and threw his head to the side with a "come on."

I made no move to follow, and after a few moments he rolled his eyes and picked up the food. "It's okay. I'll give you more videos."

My ears perked up at that. Maybe he'd take me to Waya to borrow another tablet!

He left the room and I quickly scurried after him. Though he took large steps, he kept his pace slow. We descended a staircase, but instead of going to the rooms in which we had class, he headed in the other direction and down a hallway.

Since the Alpha's arms were full, he pushed a door open with his back and elbowed a light switch on. He leaned against the door to hold it open for me and lifted the plates high for me to duck under.

I eyed him up and down suspiciously. Was he planning on doing something?

"You're safe, Kitten." He said in a low tone and heavily lidded eyes. If it was meant to calm me, it did anything but. Instead, something in my belly bloomed and sank lower. The quivering of my heart made me want to trust him. I'd never felt anything like it before, but it felt dangerous and mysterious.

With a deep breath, I slid past him through the narrow opening. His massive form almost blocked the entire way, so the very tips of my breasts brushed against his firm belly. It sent another jolt through my body and my breath hitched. What did this keep happening to me?

My wide eyes met his intense stare. There was something dangerous there. Dangerous and hungry.

"You're safe." He repeated quietly, his voice seeming to have dropped another active and vibrated in my chest.

I nodded once and then squeezed the rest of the way through. He cleared his throat and avoided my frightened eyes. Instead, he rounded a long couch that sat in the center of the dimly lit room, and placed the dishes on a small table resting in front.

"You can watch videos here." He rasped, as if straining against something.

He picked up a small remote from the table and pointed it at the wall. My already wide eyes bulged as it illuminated, and I realized it was a screen, just like on the tablets. I gasped audibly, and raced around the couch and flopped into it excitedly.

"This uh, this controls it," he pressed some buttons on it and a library similar to the one on my device appeared. "Be—be good." He stuttered and then tossed the remote beside me. I quickly snatched it up.

"I'll send Conri to help you." His voice sounded short as he backed away with his hands raised in front of him.

He looked entirely uncomfortable as he left, but as soon as he disappeared, I shrugged my shoulders and turned my attention to the massive screen before me.
