Chapter 1

Jason was only 12 years old when he moves to New York City with his parent "Mr and Mrs" Donald. His father works in a 5star hotel as a security officer while his mother was a trader.

 Jason was an eighth grader and will be taking his exam to graduate from mid-school to high school this year.

Early in the morning by 6:00 AM, Jason was dragged out of the bed to prepare for school by his father.

 "Dad I don't feel like going to school today" said Jason in a murmuring tone.

"Good morning sleeping head and why did you refuse to go to school today" replied his father.

"I want to sleep a little longer" replied Jason before going back to bed.

"But today is not the weekend, so you can't "said his father as he quickly pulled him from the bed.

"Okay I will go only on one condition" said Jason with a smile on his face while opening his eyes to take a look at his father's face before continuing with his statement.

"You will take me to school".

Mr. Donald paused for a moment when he heard his son reply before speaking up after a while.

"But you know I will be late for work if I do".

"Is your work more important than your son"? asked Jason with a sad face when he hear his father reply.

Seeing this, his father laugh as he sat on the bed before playing with Jason's hair

 "Of cause not, my son is more precious than my work. But if you want me to take you to school, then you need to get ready on time for I would be living soon".

Hearing this, Jason hurriedly got up from bed and hug his father before running into the bathroom while his father went back to the living room. On getting to the living room, He saw that his wife is already preparing breakfast and he went to join her in the kitchen

"good morning dear" said Mr. Donald as he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"Morning honey, it took you time to leave Jason's bedroom today"? she said with a giggle.

"Yeah, I only went there to wake him up from bed so that he will not be late for school. Only to hear him say he's not going unless I take him to school" replied Mr. Donald.

"And what did you tell him "asked Mrs. Donald.

"After trying to reason with him that I will be late for work if I were to take him to school he refused to, so I have to agree in order for him to go to school" replied Mr. Donald with a sigh.

They talk for some time before Jason came out and greeted his mother and had dinner before he left home with his father for school. Jason walked hand in hand with his father on their way to his school, after walking for twenty minutes, they finally got to the school premises and Jason had to bid his father goodbye before going inside the school.

On his way to his block his classmate called and ran to him, they walk in together and before long, they were already standing before their block. Jason finally asked his friend Max what was his plan after graduation since they won't be seeing each other once they have graduated. 

"I will be helping my dad at work" replied Max without giving it a second thought.

"What about you Jason, what will you be doing"? Max return the question.

"I will be assisting my mother with her trade" Jason replied.

"I heard Morris is leaving for Canada after graduation"? asked Max.

"That is no longer a news, with his father by his side, it will only be a matter of time before he leaves. What about Jane, is there any news about her leaving the country after graduation"? said Jason with a plain face while making his way into the hall.

"I heard she will be living with her aunty for the holiday" replied Max as they took their seat.

They talk for a while before their teacher came, and they started with the study which lasted for four hours before they were finally closed for the day. Jason and Max left the school premises and walk home since they live in the same district.

After they arrive at Max's residence, Jason greeted Max's father before taking his leave. He walks for about ten minutes before he finally got home.

When he got home he discovered that the door was not locked and there was the sound of running water coming from the kitchen, which indicates that his mother was at home. He went in and head straight to his room to have a bath before going to assist his mother. On entering his room Jason discovered that his room was clean and also his toys, books, and shoes were kept in order. putting his school bag down, he took off his school uniform before going to the bathroom to have his bath after this, Jason put on some clothes and went to the kitchen where he saw his mother washing vegetables and he greeted her with a smile.

 "Good afternoon mum".

"Good afternoon son, how was school today "? asked his mother. 

"Not bad, how come you're home so early, replied Jason. 

"I couldn't go to work since the house is a mess, I decided to do some clean up" replied his mother.

"Oh, why didn't you wait until weekend, so we can do the cleaning together "? asked Jason. 

"And leave the house in a sorry state, no can't do darling" reply Mrs. Donald. 

Hearing her reason for not waiting till weekend before cleaning the room, he decided to let go of the matter. Seeing that he is no longer talking about the cleaning, she quickly instructed him to take over the vegetable.

"Do you mind washing the dishes and cutting the vegetables while I steam the pork"? Asked his mother.

"Okay" replied Jason as he took over from his mother and begin to wash the dishes. and after he was done with the dishes, he went straight to cut the vegetables. When cutting the vegetables, Jason asked his mother if his father would be coming home for supper.

" No Jason, your father has being given a day off last week, so he's not supposed to come home tonight " she replied shortly with her eyes glued to what he is doing.

"Oh father's work is very stressful and there is a lack of time he spent with us" said Jason angrily.

"But he don't have a choice, if he decides to stop working, then it will be very difficult to provide for our needs, and don't forget about your school" replied his mother. 

"Well I miss having him here" said Jason with his head lowered. 

"He will be back home tomorrow morning when he's done with his shift" replied his mother with a smile. 

After which they kept silent and continued with what they were doing. After Mrs. Donald was done cooking they sat for supper and after which, they went to the living room to watch television. 

Meanwhile, while they were watching the movie, Mrs. Donald received a call.

"Hello, this Mrs. Donald "said Mrs. Donald. 

"Hello, I'm calling from the hospital to inform you that your husband was involved in an accident " replied the caller.

"What happen to my husband, is he alright" was the first word that left Mrs. Donald's mouth when she heard that her husband was involved in an accident.

"Your husband was hit by a car this afternoon while he was sent on an errand by the boss" replied the caller.

"Which hospital was he admitted to"? She asked with tears flowing down from her eyes.

"He was admitted at the central hospital" replied the caller.

"I'm on my way, are you with my husband"? Asked Mrs. Donald.

"yes madam, when you get there just give me a call" replied the caller before ending the call. 

Mrs. Donald stood up and went to the bedroom to get her purse before preparing to leave when she heard Jason saying he was also going with her to see his father.
