Chapter 35: Never Forever

Straven

“Yes, I happen to be right here,” said a female voice behind Cas, making him turn.

Cas hadn’t seen Bronwen Sade in at least nine years. That meant she had to be sixty-something years old. The wildness of Birchwoods had mercy on her beauty; she was still stunning with her Whitecrown features of gold eyes and white hair that she’d shorn just above her shoulders. Her smile was long and thin with genuine happiness to see him, but there was still wariness in her gaze that kept flicking to Shani and Mingan. He didn’t blame her; his bringing them here violated her family’s sacred duty.

Ironically, that duty was to protect his family.

“Casimir. You looked decidedly less unkempt than the last time I saw you.”

Cas flashed her a grin, stroking his groomed beard. “Courtesy of Helene.”

“That stubborn old thing?” Bronwen chuckled. “She was always soft with you. Every Midmoon she was trying to chat you up. It’s that stupid charm.”

“I do have a fair deal of it.”
