The vision I'd just had faded, and I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. I blinked rapidly, the
fog before my eyes clearing, but they immediately started to burn with impending tears. I squeezed them shut to hold the tears back as I reached out and placed my hand on the cool wall for support. Sometimes, being able to see into the future was more of a burden than a gift.
I opened my eyes and inhaled deeply before continuing down the hall. For two days, I'd enjoyed having Ruby and Xavier back. While everyone had been busy, it'd been nice just being able to see each other. My vision made it clear that would be ending soon.
"Natalie?" I turned around.
General Presley was just stepping out of a room. He closed the door softly and walked over to me. "It's pretty late. Are you okay?"
"Ah, yeah, I was just going to Ruby's room," I told him, my nails digging into my palm behind my back.
