Chapter 29: Bonfire Heartbeats

The sun began to set and for the first time in a very long time, it felt amazing. Shayla didn't want to run and hide from the cotton candy sky. Not this time. Instead, she embraced every minute of the rotation of the Earth that brought her this gorgeous, painted sky.

Liam and Seth were outside getting the bonfire going. Shayla only hoped she didn't have to make a trip to the emergency room tonight after those two were done playing with the fire.

Hadley and Natalie helped Shayla carry food outside to the picnic tables while Matt blew bubbles with Amelia. The yard was full of pack members, and everyone looked at peace for once. Tonight wasn't about wars or death. It was about love and family.

There were faces missing from the gathering, some from passing on and others from moving on. Either way, it was a bit sad, but Shayla pushed her heart break deep down but this time for the sake of the evening. She wanted, no needed, to have a good time tonight.
