Chapter 23: Let the War Begin

Evan sat with his thoughts while Shayla and Hadley napped. It would only be a couple more hours before the rest of the pack were there and the war would begin.

His thoughts swam around that day many years ago. The day Shayla's world changed forever, as did his.

He was only a child so why did he feel so d*mn guilty? He felt if he would have told her from the get-go that she would understand but now, now it was too late. She wouldn't. She would never be able to get past the lies and secrets.

He knew that much about her. She was just as stubborn as she was beautiful. And he knew she loved him, but her knowing the reality was his ultimate fear.

But being there in New York with the past lurking possibly anywhere, how was he to avoid it. Should he just tell her?

He didn't know. Instead, he just watched the two of them sleep, peacefully, before the war commenced.
