Chapter 18: The Darkness

Liam

Liam was about to settle in for the night when he heard some commotion outside, by the barn. He threw on his jacket and boots and went out to check on the situation.

The sun had set, and the night had blanketed his property. The outdoor barn lights had kicked on and out of the corner of his eye, he saw movement.

D*mn racoons.

He drew a gun from the pocket of his jacket, held it with both hands as he pointed it in the direction of the shadow.

Somehow, the noise continued inside the barn. Whatever or whoever the shadow was, made their way inside.

Liam approached the big, barn doors and swiftly swung them open. He didn't even have time to turn the inside lights on because whoever was hiding inside came barreling out and landed on top of Liam.

"What in the world?" Liam said as he pushed whoever it was off him. He stood up and looked at his clothes. They were covered in blood.
