Chapter 14: Matters of the Heart

"Hey, what are you doing here? How did you know--"

"I stopped by the house and Natalie told me where you were, but I have a feeling she wasn't supposed to."

"No, she wasn't, but that's okay. I was just helping Liam do some work in his barn."

Evan knew she was lying. And he also knew why.

"I have missed you," Evan said as he scooped her up in a giant bear hug, lifting her off the ground, twirling her around.

"Evan, you are smashing me."

"Sorry, I am just so happy to see you."

"I am happy to see you too and missed you as well. How have things been?" she asked.

She adored his voice. She felt like she hadn't heard it in so long. He had been quite busy at school, so he hadn't been able to make an actual phone call in a while, only texts.

"I have been great. School is going well. It's been keeping me busy. I have been hanging out with some new friends and that one girl I told you about that invited me to a party. She's actually pretty cool. I think you would like her."
