“And maybe all I ever needed from you was to be wanted for more than what I could do for you,” he said quietly. Stella shimmered in the doorway to the bedroom, her sundress back on, her eyes sad. He turned his back on both of them and took a deep breath. “I’ll get everything sorted with the front desk like I promised.”

“What I want to know, Shane, is why you didn’t tell me years ago how little you thought of me? You could have saved us both a lot of time.” The door opened in front of him. “Don’t bother with the front desk.”

Shane clenched his jaw. His nails dug into his palms as he strode out of the suite, his head held high.

Until the door slammed shut behind him. It echoed into him, over and over again as he walked blindly for the elevator.9

Lucky had been living with Stella long enough to know when she was gearing up for a fight. Now she stared at him with her arms crossed over her lovely breasts and her eyes were flashing. He was torn between apologizing and ignoring her.
