Their Relationship Changed

Su Yan looked at the text he had written until now and grimaced. It didn't look like that much but considering he only had five thousand words it probably was. He once again had the program count and indeed: He had already written more than three thousand words.

"Argh! How am I supposed to wrap everything up in not even two thousand words? That's completely impossible!"

Uh. It seemed he could only make a time skip to when Yun Bei Fen was healed, have those two make up and become friends and then jump right back to the thing that had happened in the beginning. Hmph. He might be able to do that in two thousand words.

[Yun Bei Fen stayed unconscious for two weeks. Mei Chao Bing sat at his bedside the whole time and rushed about to do what Yun Bei Fen's Master told him to do whenever he checked in on his disciple.

Finally, on the morning of the first day of the third week, Yun Bei Fen's lashes trembled and his eyes cracked open. Mei Chao Bing tightened the grip on his hand and leaned forward, peering into the handsome face he had already admired so often the last few days. Yun Bei Fen didn't look completely healthy yet but at least he wasn't deathly pale anymore. It seemed he really was doing better.

Yun Bei Fen dazedly looked at the person in front of him. "Senior … Martial Brother … Mei?" Was he dreaming? Why was the person he had admired for so long here with him?

"Mn. I'm here. How do you feel? Does your shoulder still hurt?"

Yun Bei Fen wanted to shake his head but his limbs felt too heavy. "Mh … no." He really didn't feel any pain but for the moment he also couldn't remember why he should. His mind was still hazy. Had something happened?

Mei Chao Bing didn't know what else to say and just continued to sit next to him, holding onto his hand. Maybe he should apologize because he had been the reason Yun Bei Fen got hurt? And maybe he should also apologize because he had treated him so badly before? Ah, he really was an idiot! Why had he been so distrustful? Yun Bei Fen was obviously a good person.

"Senior Martial Brother Mei."

"Mn?" Mei Chao Bing looked up. "What is it? Do you need something?"

"No, just … What happened? Why …" His gaze roamed about once more. "Isn't this my Master's house?

"Mn. I brought you here. We were out patrolling and … I didn't pay attention. When we were attacked, you pushed me out of harm's way and were hurt yourself."

"Oh." Yun Bei Fen furrowed his brow but he still couldn't remember. His head slowly started to feel better, though.

"Junior Martial Brother Yun …" Mei Chao Bing gulped and tightened his grip on Yun Bei Fen's hand once again. "I … I'm sorry. I treated you unfairly before."

"No … No. Why are you apologizing?"

"I misunderstood you. You really just wanted to help that day and I … I just assumed you were being … like everyone else. But you're obviously not." He definitely wasn't. He never had been.

Yun Bei Fen tried to get up but he still wasn't strong enough. In fact, his shoulder hurt as soon as he tried to put his weight on his arm. He gave a yelp and fell down again, his face losing color.

Mei Chao Bing bent forward and pushed away the robe to have a look at the bandage. Everything seemed alright, though. He couldn't see any blood. Actually, the wound had already healed to a large part. After all, Yun Bei Fen's Master was a highly regarded Elder of the sect and Yun Bei Fen was his favorite disciple. Naturally, he would use the best resources to heal him. That Yun Bei Fen wasn't completely healed was only due to the fact that his Master had wanted to give him time to make up with Mei Chao Bing.

"Just lie down. You'll still need a few days before you can move about."

"Senior Martial Brother Mei … please help me up, yes?"

"You shouldn't." Mei Chao Bing resolutely pressed him down again when Yun Bei Fen wanted to sit up. "I was an idiot. Please forgive me."

Yun Bei Fen was bewildered. Hadn't he been the one who wanted to apologize? How had it suddenly turned out like this? But if Mei Chao Bing was suddenly apologizing … "Does this mean you've forgiven me?"

Mei Chao Bing gave a rare smile. "There wasn't anything to forgive in the first place. Just forget about it. You should completely concentrate on getting better again. Alright?"

Yun Bei Fen was spellbound by that smile. He just nodded without really understanding what was happening. He couldn't remember ever seeing Mei Chao Bing smile.

"Do you need anything? Some water? Maybe another quilt?"

Yun Bei Fen shook his head.

"Alright. Then … I'll just wait here with you." Mei Chao Bing gently massaged Yun Bei Fen's hand, sending shivers down his spine. He tensed but after a while, he grew used to the touch and relaxed.

Those two really just sat there and only exchanged a few words every now and then until Yun Bei Fen's wounds had finally healed completely another two weeks later. They both felt like their relationship had changed, though. They weren't the strangers anymore that had to be on their toes around each other and second-guess what the other's words could mean. It really felt like they had become friends.

Unfortunately, it shouldn't stay that way for long.]

Su Yan gave a smile and added another blank line. This was a great place to end this second scene. Now, the stage was set to jump back to what had happened in the beginning and end this story. Ah, actually, he felt like he had done quite good considering that he had never written a romantic story before.

Freeeedooooom!

*pulls a William Wallace as a first hint of the bad news you're about to face*

So, I told you yesterday already that you'd be faced with a gigantic cliff and that I'd explain today. Unfortunately, webnovel thinks the "Author's Thought" section doesn't need to give us space for more than 500 characters because, well, authors probably don't think that much? Anyway, that's the reason you find today's Author's Thought here at the end of the chapter instead of in the nice blue box (that only houses a really short notice for everyone who doesn't want to read my ramblings :p).

Now, onto the explanation.

Here it comes (Brace yourselves, it's really awful!): I'll be gone for a whole week (!) because I'm on vacation in Scotland. Since my vacation normally includes running around like mad from dusk till dawn I probably won't find the time or energy to write even a single chapter.

So ... you'll have to live without Su Yan and Nie Chang for a whole week! :o

I'm very sorry about that but I really need this vacation to refill my creative batteries so I hope you'll be able to wait that week. I'll be back with regular daily chapters starting from the 24. September. :)

Btw I'll be staying in Glasgow, so if anyone has suggestions what I should definitely have a look at there or in the vicinity, please do comment! I still have a day or two where I'm not totally sure what to do. ;)

Short notice:

The author is on vacation from 17. - 23. September. Check in on the 24. September for the regular daily chapters again.
