THE EXORCIST

In 1949, priests performed an exorcism on a boy referred to as "Roland Doe," a.k.a. Ronald Hunkeler, in a chilling ordeal that became the real-life inspiration for "The Exorcist." In the picturesque Bel-Nor neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, sits a beautiful, Colonial-style house on Roanoke Drive that was once the home of a boy called Roland Doe, a.k.a. Robbie Mannheim or Ronald Hunkeler. It looks normal on the outside, with an all-brick exterior and white shutters framing the windows. Huge trees and neatly manicured bushes dot the yard. Their 13-year-old boy, believed to be named Ronald Hunkeler (later referred to pseudonymously as “Roland Doe” or “Robbie Mannheim”), was despondent over the loss of his beloved Aunt Harriet. Harriet was a spiritualist who’d taught him many things — including how to use a Ouija board. In early January 1949, shortly after Harriet’s death, Ronald Hunkeler began to experience strange things. He heard scratching sounds coming from the floors and walls of his room. Water dripped inexplicably from pipes and walls. Most troubling of all was that his mattress would suddenly move. Disturbed, Ronald’s family sought the help of every expert they knew. The family consulted doctors, psychiatrists, and their local Lutheran minister, but they were no help. The minister suggested that the family seek the assistance of the Jesuits. Father E. Albert Hughes, the local Catholic priest, asked his superiors’ permission to perform an exorcism on the boy in late February of 1949. The church granted Hughes’ request. Vase Madien

"Eldritch Hollow, the prosperous town where people from all over the continent come to buy beauty. The vases of this place are said to be the most artistic and beautiful. The vase maiden's beauty is both a coveted allure and a haunting curse. The tradition has been followed for a long time; it is believed that only the privileged are chosen to be the maiden of the vase, but is it really so? This, only the some may know. To make art, you need beauty, and to make the vase beautiful, you need a face that's beautiful. The way of choosing the privileged one is simple; you have to be young, beautiful, and maybe helpless too. Most of this beauty comes from a rather poor background. The family and the maiden are happy and sad because now she may be chosen, but she may leave forever. A chosen maiden can never see her family again because she is not just a mere girl but the representation of beauty that will fetch the business a lot of money. They can't let the family see them when the children are dressed in a vase; the family may know and cause a ruckus, and then again, they will have to be cleaned. So let's make it a rule to be chosen and to leave forever because this will end the matter forever. After being chosen, they will learn to smile because that's the only thing that will be useful when all their bodies are hidden and only their faces are shown. To please the rich and powerful, may their smiles be shown. Twisted, their bodies will become as they grow in the shell of the vase; they may despair and pray, but all that's left is pain. As long as they're young and fine, they may be treated as divine, but as they age, they may be left to be rotten in their beautiful shell. How long this suffering may last, not even the perpetrators may know as it is a tradition that has been there for how long, no one knows."
