When I was done accusing Knox of supporting my mother in her schemes to defraud my wife, Knox just leaned back in his chair with a smug smile, with an odd expression on his crinkled face, his wrinkles deeping in the corner of his eyes.
I frowned at his calm exterior, watching him through narrowed eyes, the distrust I felt and didn't try to hide, which seem to amuse him.
Chuckling softly, he open a draw to his left and pulled out a brown legal sized envelope and threw it lightly in front of me.
"I guess it's safe to say, you've found David," he smiles, his expression no longer guarded but light with humor.
Frowning at his response, I opened the envelope and started reading the documents I pulled out.
I breathe a sigh of relief when at the legal document signed by David Sullivan, transferring all of possessions to Adana Knights, removing Hailey's name as his benificary, giving my mother Ameila knights Power of Attorney over Adana's Knights property until she is twenty five.
Confused I look up to see Knox staring at me with a soft smile.
"You didn't submit it?" I asked carefully, "is this the original?" I asked, still doubting what I'm holding in my hand. "Are there any more copies?" I added.
Laughing, Knox shook his head. "I will tell you this just once and you and I will never have this conversation, ever again." Knox said, leaning down to open a draw that seems to be at the bottom of desk. He pulls out a bottle of whiskey, putting it in front of us and presses his intercom.
"Bring some glasses," he instructs his secretary, leaning back in his chair, with his eyes on me, leaving me with an uneasy feeling, a feeling I hate.
"Aren't you going to tear up those documents up?" Knox asks.
Shrugging, I browse through the documents before lifting my eyes to Knox.
"There's nothing here about Hailey's incompetence." I told him, still suspicious of more documents being out there.
I spun around when I heard one single knock, before Knox's secretary walked in with two whiskey glasses on a small waiter and a disposable cup.
Knox eyed the disposable cup with a weary smile.
"Do you honestly think you're going to celebrate without me?" She laughs, placing the cup lightly beside the whiskey bottle. "Whatever you're celebrating." She turns and give me a cheerful wink.
With a glare directed at his secretary, Knox fills her cup and motions for her to leave.
"Thank you" she grins with a light chuckle, then turn to me, "I've got something special to send for Hailey, when you're leaving." The secretary says before walking out and shutting the door behind her.
Knox poured two glasses, sliding one towards me and lifting one for himself.
"To Hailey and David's reunion." He smiles but I frown and clinked his glass, taking the shot in one gulp, wincing when the sting of the alcohol hits the back of my throat,
"I shouldn't be doing this after taking my migraine meds last night, but what the f**k, right?" I said to Knox, who place his glass down and removed the bottle from on top the desk.
Laughing nervously, "yeah, bad idea." Knox agreed, putting the whiskey away before walking to his filing cabinet. Shifting the cabinet, he pulls a key from a bunch attached to his belt and opens the safe, returning with a file after closing the safe and placing the cabinet to block it.
"You're brave, showing me where you keep your secrets," I laugh awkwardly, not understanding what's changed and why he's isn't worried about me finally meeting Sullivan?
Returning to his seat Knox opens the file, while I just wait to see what's in store.
"I secured Hailey and safeguarded her inheritance from everyone, including you." Knox was saying while lifting the documents in the file in front of him.
"David give your mother full guardianship over Hailey and her assets until her twenty first birthday, a privilege your mother abused." Knox slides the file over to me.
Pulling the documents closer to me, I started reading, shocked to see, Hailey's last Will and Testament.
Raising my eyebrows, I frowned at Knox.
"Her will?" I exclaimed in surprise, unaware my wife was preparing for her death?
Smiling, Knox nodded. "You know Hailey will always put others before her and to be honest, she made this before you and she still doesn't know about.." Knox paused, taking a deep breath.
"Our sister," I finish his sentence, watching his eyes widen in shock.
Tilting his head, "your mother isn't aware that you know?" He ascertains with a frown.
I shook my head.
Nodding, "so David told you," he says believing that I only now found out.
Chuckling, I shook my head, "no and I have known since the beginning." I said thoughtfully. Leaning back against my chair. "Hailey doesn't realize it yet, but I am not the only one who knows." I added, leaving him deep in thought.
"Your mother's time for abusing Hailey is finally over and I believe I have you to thank for that." Knox smiles in appreciation.
I had to know if mom was abusing Hailey, why did she agree to marry me?
"Why did she agree to marry me, even though she had a choice?" I ask a worried looking Knox.
Averting his eyes from mines, he shook his head, his lips twisted in disgust.
Taking a deep breath, his lips started quivering, nervously getting my full attention.
"I may lose my practice after this," he started and I frowned anxiously. "I have done some questionable things to please your mother, even supporting her lies about Hailey to her father." Knox admits, my anger slowly returning.
My first and usual instinct is to drag him over the desk, but I need to know more. I need to know every f**king thing he has been up to with my f**king mother.
"I'm listening," I muttered angrily,
