Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty Eight - Hard to Say Goodbye!

Hailey and her father couldn't keep their eyes off each other.

I don't believe either one of them heard what Gussippie was saying or what he was advising but one thing I gathered when Hailey cried against her father's chest, is how angry he got.

His anger against the people who tried to imprison his daughter, even after all she's been through.

Gossippie met my eyes when we saw his rage that Hailey couldn't see and with a smirk Gussippie nods at the pair in front of us.

David Sullivan is already free!

I shouldn't be happy to want my mother behind bars but she's a murdered who continues to destroy lives. Saving my sister from her won't be easy but I'll only have a chance if my mother's no longer in the picture.

Hailey leaned against my shoulder and I hugged her but her eyes never left her father, nor did his eyes leave hers.

The anger he felt towards her that first time we met disappeared, especially since Hailey only give him a part of what she endured at the hands of the people whose care he left her in.

He trusted Amelia and Allan but all they both wanted was his wealth.

First thing I do on Monday morning is to have Hailey take her position at the Knights Foundation with me by her side, guiding her along the way, until my mother's case is dealt with.

Finally it was time to leave but I didn't anticipate Hailey's reaction.

Throwing herself against her father's chest, she screams.

"No please don't take him away from me again," she begs the guards, falling to the floor in front of him, holding onto his legs as her life depended on him.

"Hailey Bear, you have to go and I won't break my promise this time, I will come back to you," He promised, with tears running down his cheeks but he cannot wipe them because he is handcuffed.

Shaking her head, she reaches out and wipes his tears, "no daddy, I was afraid to come because you would leave again," she cries. "Please don't make me go and leave you in this place all alone," Hailey's words and heartbreak, broke her father, causing him to slump to the floor.

Lifting his arms, he encircled her in his arms, burying his head on her shoulders, sobbing uncontrollably.

The guards just stood around and wiped their eyes while I looked on. I couldn't take this moment away from her. She needed to do this after losing him for almost seventeen years.

Even I cannot begin to understand the full extent of her pain.

The security I converse with since meeting my father-in-law nods at the pair on the floor and the clock on the wall.

We moved towards them simultaneously, separating them.

David wept quietly, but my wife screamed until she fell exhausted in my arms, with David turning to stare at her slumped body in my arms.

I could see his jaw clench, his tear filled eyes getting cold with anger, as I struggle to pick my emotionally exhausted wife off the floor.

I had to take her out bridal style, making eye contact with her father whom the guards position in an area of the prison yard to watch us leave.

Wiping his eyes, he nods at me, before collapsing on the grass in the prison yard.

I could swear I head him scream in anguish.

Bas, was already running towards us to open the door.

I took a bottle water and washed Hailey's face, caressing the softness of her cheeks, her lips, her eyes.

Closing the door, I left Bas to look on at Hailey, while I speak to Gussippie whose leaning against his Lincoln, staring at me thoughtfully.

"I shouldn't say this, but if that is your wife's reaction in court on Wednesday, her father will be home before the weekend." He says, but it seems as if he is asking for permission for something.

Not wishing to be disrespectable to Mr. Gussippie, "we will continue with the hearing just the way you discussed it with my father-in-law, using the information provided. My wife's testimony would be a last resort." I responded firmly.

Nodding, "see you on Wednesday," I said and left to rejoin my wife laying exhausted in the SUV.

Walking around the vehicle, I open the door to see my wife smiling and picking on a sandwich, her face freshly cleaned, smiling when she saw me but not even seeing me, would take away the emptiness in her eyes.

We returned to the penthouse a little after lunch but everyone was waiting on our return to have Sunday lunch together.

No one asked any questions and we didn't volunteer any information about our visit, except my father.

Hailey and the girls were in the entertainment room while dad, Bas and I settled unto the balcony with a bottle of whiskey.

"Your mother called while you were out, demanding to know where you were." Dad says, wincing as he takes a large gulp of his drink.

Swirling my drink, I stare at my dad, "are you okay with all of this?" Worried about my father, I had to know, having never considered his feeling since I found out everything, revolving about Hailey.

"I am," he assures me, "especially after seeing what Hailey went through," nodding he admitted. Frowning he stares at me, "how did she react when she saw him?" Dad asked curiously.

From the corner of my eye, I notice Bas sit up to take in this part of our conversation.

I filled them in on everything that occurred when Hailey first saw her father and about the both of them breaking down on the floor when it was time to leave.

The three of us cried while I spoke and I wondered if it was the alcohol adding to our emotional state.

The last thing I remembered was Hailey joining me in bed to cuddle.
