Chapter Twenty Six

HAILEY'S POV

With tears streaming down my cheeks, I walked out the door leaving it open, continuing towards the elevator with my back facing the penthouse entrance.

I felt Adana's arms around me before I heard her. 'It's okay, every married girl eventually goes to their husband's house" Adana says softly.

As I turn to her my cheeks still damp with tears, I met her brother's eyes. With a small smile I gaze up at him, knowing I'm not a normal married girl going to her normal husband's home. I'm a girl seeking refuge in the home of a man I contracted to.

He looks away walking past us pressing the buttons to bring the elevator up to the penthouse. As the doors open in front us, Adian walks in first, followed by Adana with me being the last to walk in with a aching heart.

I stood inside the elevator staring at nanny Peirce lost in my own thoughts as the door closes.

Suddenly I felt embarrass about going to the homes of people I barely knew, especially a husband who clearly don't want me around. I mean he has a girlfriend and me being in his house when she visits will be awkwardly embarrassingly for me.

The ride down to the lobby was eerily quiet with me being the one who broke the silence as the doors opened in the lobby.

I stepped out first, waving at Carl, the evening shift lobby security as Adana and Adian followed me. I pulled out my phone, scrolling for the taxi service number.

"Who are you calling?" Adana asked curiously.

Confused at what I should say, " a taxi?" I answered more like a question.

Frowning, "why?" she asks.

Taking a deep breath, "so that I can go to the children's home. it will be best instead of imposing on you all" I answered honestly.

Looking at her brother, then at me, "you won't be imposition" she answered, then turned to her brother. "what did you do?" she ask him accusingly.

He frowns as he shook his head with a frustrated look before he addressed me, "you have two options, either you go with me or I take you back to your apartment." already lifting my suitcase off the floor.

Instantly panicking, "okay, okay, please, I'll go with you" I resigned, accepting my defeat.

I allowed Adian to walked ahead of us, only stopping to inform Carl about my temporary change of address and asking that he inform Amos.

With a sad smile, Carl's forehead creases with lines of worry as he reaches out to give me a hug. "Don't be a stranger" he says quietly.

Nodding, "oh don't worry, you won't get rid of me that easy! I'll come by on Sunday. Also, please take care of nanny Peirce" I requested.

"Of course, young Hailey" he responds.

""Thank you" I said waving as I followed Adana. who stood on the side, waiting for me with her brother nowhere in site.

"AD said to wait here" she says putting an arm halfway around my waist, leaning her head on my arm, with me standing about two or three inches taller than her.

Adian pulled up in front of us, gazing at us with a frown, shaking his head before he pop his trunk to put the bag Adana held in her hand.

He smiled, ruffled her hair as he took my bag from her.

Feeling uncomfortable with the way he looked at us together, probably not wanting his sister too close to me.

Adana was heading for the back seat, but I ended up beating her to it.

"You're going to start riding shotgun sooner or later" she said, as I settled in the back seat.

Observing Adian as he shuts the door. gazing st me in the rearview mirror.

"No sooner or later for me because no one knows your brother and I are married" I told her "and I'm not going to come between him and his girlfriend" I explained.

They both turned to stare at me, Adana being the one to break the awkward silence. Why didn't I just shut up about his girlfriend. Now I'm going to sound like a jealous wife.

"Girlfriend? what girlfriend, Adian? What's going on?" Adana turned her focus on Adian, who gave me an angry gaze in the rearview mirror.

"She's just jealous, don't worry" he said turning the radio on, really loud. Adana huffed rather loudly, turning to look out the window.

Looking down, staring at my hands that are joined together on my lap. Am I jealous? I admit when I realize he's the one I was getting married to, I was happy and relax. For some reason I wasn't afraid. I did hope that he would eventually notice me like he did in the coffee shop, but he hasn't.

Why was he so friendly in the coffee shop, when he obviously has a girlfriend. Gosh, I started having feelings for someone else's boyfriend and I'm not that type of girl.

I with stay away from him as much as possible and without his knowledge, I will leave when Adana goes home, so I not unpack my things.

When I remember what I'm not suppose to, I won't be a burden to anyone anymore.

I clutch my handbag closer to me because it contains my dream book. The book I can look back to for clues.

"Hailey? Hailey? We're here" Adana says opening my door.

Feeling like the idiot that I am, always getting caught in my dreams, never on the alert.

Stepping out of the vehicle, which is parked in front of a beautiful mansion. Wow, it's completely glass with lots of lights with night almost on us. Without looking st Adian, I turned to Adana.

"I'm sorry for flaking out on you" I said

"Come" she says pulling, while I tried to shut the door pulling my handbag with me.

"My bags" I said.

"Don't worry, they'll get it" she continue to pull me.

"Okay, okay" I said trying to get her to slow down, but she didn't.

The front door was already open by a tall blond guy, with beautiful green eyes and an extremely low hair cut. As if he's a soldier. He works here? Is he the butler? I turned to see Adana gazing adoringly at him.

Smiling, I look to him only to realize he's observing me with curiosity.

Again feeling uncomfortable, "Hi, I'm Hailey, Hailey Sullivan" I put out my hand to greet him.

His stare made me so uncomfortable, I wanted to run.
