Chapter One Hundred Eighty Five - Adana meets Emmy

Adian leaned down quickly and whispers into Emmy's ears.

Her eyes widen in surprise, instantly clamping her chubby hands over her small rounded mouth, before looking up at me with a guilty expression.

"Oops" she mummers, looking at Adian, "sorry." She apologizes, but I am lost as to her reason for apologizing.

Looking behind him for a brief moment, Adian kisses Emmy on the head, standing up straight, he smirks at my confused expression.

Something is up with Adian and Emmy and they are not ready to share it, but what?

"Want one?" Adian whispers beside me.

Lips slightly opened, I stared back at him in confusion.

"Want what?" I tilt my head to meet his gaze and mischievous smirk.

Leaning down, "this" he says, planting a soft kiss on my lips, catching me off guard.

Turning around once more, Adian looked at me nervously, "she isn't here yet, so I am just going to check on her," he palms my face and kisses me once again, but with more intensity.

"Brace yourself for whatever mood she is in" he advises me.

Smiling, "don't worry, whatever happens, we'll try again." I promised him, because I know he wants this for us and I want this for them.

Adian turned abruptly and walksaway, leaving me with Emmy.

Looking down I caught her staring at me with a curious expression, which was quickly replaced by a bright smile.

Stooping down to Emmy's level, "why did you just apologize to Adian?" I asked Emmy softly, hoping to coax their secret out of her.

Her little forehead creases in a frown and I suddenly felt guilty for trying to break Adian's trust in her, but I am curious, so I decided to give it another shot.

"What did you mean about the lady with the hammer?" I asked instead, using another angle of questioning her, guilty but curious nonetheless.

Shaking her head softly, "I can't tell you," Emmy whispers, giving me a sad and sorry look.

I felt hurt to do this, "I'm sorry, forget I asked. Okay?" I responded softly, holding her hands.

Her expression brightens instantly, "I can tell you something else," she volunteers, tickling my curiosity.

Without saying a word, I nod for her to continue, anxiously.

Chuckling, "it's a gooood secret." She laughs, elaborating on the 'good'. She is happy and smiling, which works for me.

"I'm not travelling in the same car with her" I heard a voice yelling behind me, which sounded a lot like Adana, my sister-in-law.

I slowly got up and still holding Emmy's hand, I turned around with a smile ready to face everything Adana is ready to throw at me.

I met Adana's eyes first, which is full of hate and animosity.

"Why are you here?" She met my smile with an angry glare, her eyes darting between Emmy and I. "Whose she?" Adana continued, rudely.

Adian, who stood silently beside her cut her off instantly.

"Don't even go there." He responded icily, his voice soft with a threatening tone.

I looked up to see his angry glare on his sister.

Needing to break this tension, "this is Emmy," I introduced Adana to Emmy and look down at Emmy. "Em, this is Adana, Adian's sister." I informed Emmy.

A beautiful bright smile broke out on Emmy's face.

"Hello" Emmy greeted Adana shyly.

Ignoring Emmy's greetings, Adana turned to give me a scornful look, "so this is one of your orphans," she commented, her lips curled up in disgust. "My brother is fulling up his life with a bunch of orphans and his own flesh and blood, he's abandoning." Adana said and looked up at Adain with the same disgusted expression on her face.

"Don't you f..." Adian was saying when I cut him off.

"Stop" I raised my voice tightening my hold on Emmy. "We didn't come here for all of this," I was saying when Adana cut me off.

"Then whey are you here?" She continued, her tone and words mixed with hate and acid.

Soften my gaze, I lifted my eyes to my husband who was still glaring down at his sister.

"Your brother misses you" I tell her softly, "and I miss you." I added smiling at her.

Scuffing, she ignores my words, but turned to her brother, "so are you taking me home or what?" Adana continued rudely.

"Chubbs" Adian tried to speak to her but again she cut him across, rudely.

"Adian" She addressed him. The hurt was clearly visible in his eyes hearing her address him by his full name.

"Adana" Adian responded softly and by Adana's sharp intake of breath, she was also hurt by Adian not using the pet name he gave her. "Yes, lets go." Adian walks away from Adana to hold Emmy's hand and help us into the vehicle, before opening the front passenger side and leaving it hanging open for his sister to get in.

Adian was already sitting in the driver's seat, tapping the steering wheel impatiently, while Adana hovered outside, near the open passenger seat.

Emmy suddenly leans forward, poking her little head out the window, "are you coming with us to get icecream and cake?" Emmy smiles innocently at Adana.

Adian looks across at Emmy with a gentle smile on his lips as she stares adoringly up at Adana.

Chuckling "I didn't know we were going for ice cream?" Adian asks Emmy, smiling at her invitation to Adana.

Nodding, her expression seriously thoughtful, "she's sad and Hailey always take me for ice cream to make me laugh," Emmy turns to Hailey, "member?" She asks and I nod remembering how many sad days Emmy has had.

Chuckling, "yes sweetie, I remember." I answered her, raising my eyebrows, I looked across at Adian.

Sighing, he looks out the window where Adana still stood, "are you coming with us or do you want me to call one of my securities to pick you up?" Adian leaning lower, he asks his sister.

Finally, she decides to join us.
