Chapter One Hundred and Sixty Seven - Stepmother?

"Thank you" I responded politely to the waitress, when my plate was place before me, "I just had a heavy breakfast at the meeting I came from and I hate wasting good food." I said to Ameila, lifting my eyes to the waitress.

"Can you box this for me please, I already ordered a chicken salad." I requested politely, "so that I can heat this up for dinner." The waitress eyes darted quickly to Ameila, who was silently staring at me.

With a shy smile, "my stomach" I said patting my belly, "can't do justice to this meal and I don't want to waste it." I explained, noticing Ameila nodding to the waitress.

As the waitress started to clear the plate from in front of me, I touched her arm lightly, "if it's no trouble, may I have a bottle water please?" I asked with a polite smile.

"Yes ma'am" the waitress responds, in the same polite tone and nods at Ameila before walking towards the back of the restaurant.

As the waitress walked away, I turned my eyes to the blonde woman seated between Ameila and myself, with a genuine smile on my face.

"Oh, sorry, I should have introduced you already." Ameila says quickly, apologizing for not introducing her guest to me. "Bad manners." She chuckles,

"Hailey," Ameila looks towards me, "this is Samantha or Sam, as we fondly call her" Ameila says and I didn't miss the irritated expression on Samantha's face.

Ameila then turned to Samantha, "Sam" she says with Samantha wearing the same irritated expression, her eyes focused on the plate in front of her.

"This is Hailey, Adian's current wife" Ameila turning away from Samantha to smile at me.

Current wife?

"It's a pleasure to meet you" Samantha, I smiled at the nervous woman who still hasn't looked at me.

Samantha didn't respond, but kept her eyes downwards, "you won't think it's a pleasure when you hear who Sam is and her reason for being here." Ameila says icily.

I saw a waitress placing a plate in front of the security and watch as he instructs her to deliver the second plate to the person behind him.

"Then maybe we should devour our lunch before you tell us why we are both here." I retorted, smiling up at the waitress who brought my lunch and placed it in front of me.

"Thank you" I smiled, pulling the chicken salad closer, suddenly hungry.

Darn I'm always hungry these days!

Ignoring Ameila and the troubled ex-girlfriend of my husband, I dug into my salad, savoring the taste.

Beneath lowered lashes, I observed Ameila giving Samantha an angry shove before Samantha started picking at her lunch, while I continued to devour mines.

By the time I looked up from my plate, I started sipping the juice that came with my lunch, frowning because the waitress didn't return with my water order.

"Won't you have a glass of wine?" Ameila offered, from the bottle that came with her lunch.

Alcohol?

My hands went on my stomach, as I look for a quick response so as not to raise questions or suspicions.

Shaking my head, with a smile "I'm on mediations, I'm sorry" I tell her, praying she buys my excuse.

Frowning, Ameila gives me a puzzle look, but she knew I was on the meds the therapist give me, so hopefully she believes that I'm still on them.

Shrugging, Ameila allows the waitress to pour her a glass of wine and stopped the waitress when she was about to pour a glass for Samantha.

"Oh, no no" Ameila chuckles stopping the waitress, "she's pregnant," Ameila laughs, "I'm going to be a grandmother, finally" Ameila gushes, while I sat frozen in my seat.

In my silence I stared at Samantha, who finally lifted her dark brown eyes to meet mines.

I couldn't hide my surprise and Samantha's sad expression confirms that there's more going on here, but my frozen heart couldn't conceive it right now.

I stood up abruptly, "I need to use the washroom" I said absently and without waiting for a response, I bolted for the back of the restaurant, already feeling my eyes burning.

Unwilling to make a spectacle of myself and have a panic attack, I walked into the washroom, heading to the first vacant toilet and locking myself inside.

Pulling out my phone, I called Caleb and asked him to give me the security, whose name and number I don't know.

"Hailey" Caleb whispered, "oh my God, Hailey, Adian is angry." Caleb continue to whisper and I realize Adain must be close by.

I need to get out of here and I need the security's number, "I'll deal with Adian when I am get to the office, please give me the security's number. I am in the washroom and he is seated inside the restaurant." I whispered.

With the toilet seat turned down, I sat down and palmed my face, fighting the urge to cry. Having Ameila see my eyes red and puffy from crying, is not happening.

The last thing I need Ameila to see the weak and pathetic Hailey.

Lost in thought, I knew Ameila was up to no good and here she is, introducing me to Adain's former girlfriend or should I say pregnant girlfriend.

How far along is she? She kept the lower half of her body hidden from me.

Sighing, "God, please help me to deal with this." I prayed silently.

Placing a hand on my tummy, "I'm pregnant and Adian's excited about the prospect of being a father."

I work with children and single parents, there must be a way to handle this and not be intimedated.

I could do this! I could support Adian and Samantha's baby, but one thing I am sure of is that I will not leave Adian and break my family, which is what Ameila hopes to achieves.

Determined to be strong, I stood up ready for battle!

The clash of the Knight's women.
