Chapter One Hundred and Fifty Eight - Now Adian Knows

Ignoring me, Adian got engrossed with the file he now held in his hand.

I wasn't frantic nor was I afraid, blinking away the tears that shimmered on my eyelids, I started gathering the two files needed for the meetings Caleb had scheduled for me.

I got up and quietly left the kitchen, leaving Adian standing beside the chair I just vacated.

At the doorway, I turned around to see that he was in the same position, reading from the file he held.

Walking out into my office, I shut the door behind me and leaned against it, inhaling and exhaling, with eyes closed clutching the files, to my chest.

Lifting my head, I saw Mel, Caleb and Gerard staring back at me.

With a small smile, I moved away from the door and took the few remaining steps towards my desk.

"Are you ready for the meeting or do you need me to go over the purpose of the meeting with you?" Caleb asked as he approached my desk.

Nodding, I threw myself unto my office chair, regretting it an instant later.

"Ouch!" I winced, instantly placing a protective hand in my tummy

Gerard was immediately on his feet, making quick strides towards me, "are you okay?" he stared down at me with concern etched in his dark eyes.

Without answering, I nodded, at him with a nervous smile.

Frowning, Gerard turned and retuned to his sofa set at the back of my office, slightly hidden between two plants.

Turning back to give my attention to Caleb, "did you guys get lunch?" I asked looking towards the center table in the midst of the purple and lilac couch set.

"Bas should be back any minute with our food" Mel sighs from behind Caleb, her head down in the note pad in front of her.

Smiling, "thank you" I responded turning back to Caleb, "how much time do we have before the first meeting?" I enquired, unconsciously rubbing my stomach. It was only when I followed Caleb eyes, that I realized what I was doing.

Leaning closer to me, "don't worry, I'll make sure both you guys are fed before we enter the conference room." Caleb promises with a small chuckle.

Standing up quickly, "great" I acknowledged, "I need to use the washroom" I told him, running eagerly towards the washroom door.

By the time I returned two lunches laid on my desk. With a quick look around the room, I realized that Caleb and Gerard were missing and the kitchen door was still shut.

I opened one of the food containers leaving the other one for Adian and with time closing in on me, I dived into the lunch, which was purchased at Beef Grillers.

By the time Caleb returned, I was already done with my lunch, cleaning out the bar-b-que beef and steak fries with a fresh salad.

Normally, I could never consume an entire lunch, but not today. I ate it all!

Am I going to be pigging out at my meals during my pregnancy?

Using the bathroom, one last time, I returned to see Caleb already at my desk.

Lifting his head to me, "you ready?" He asks and I nod with a smile

Caleb took the files and while I was stacking my notepads, pencils and tab, I realized Adian was still in the kitchen and his lunch, still warm, remained on my desk.

Trying not to over think the situation and his reaction, "wait one minute" I said, to Caleb, deciding to take Adian's lunch to him.

I knocked once on the door before opening it and proceeded inside with a smile plastered on my face, only for it to disappeared at Adian's expression as he stared back at me.

Standing, awkwardly, we faced each other,.with me finally breaking the silence.

"Uh, your lunch" I said, placing the container on the table and going to the refrigerator to get him juice and bottle water, which I place beside the container, aware that Adian was still staring at me.

"Hailey" Adian started and touched my hand, but I interrupted him.

Pulling my hand away, "Caleb is waiting for me, we'll talk when we get home." I said, reaching up and kissing him on the lips.

When I went to move away, Adian pulled me closer and deepened the kiss.

Wrapping both his arms around me, hugging me tightly.

Chuckling, I wriggle myself out of his arm, "Caleb will eat both our heads off" I reminded him about our personal assistant and he nod before reluctantly letting me go!

Looking down on the table at the files, "we have to talk" he said, tapping his fingers on the loose documents that laid scattered on the desk.

Caleb and I went into the small conference room, attached to Jerry's office and was assisted by his personal assistant.

The meetings, one of which was a success, while the other will be a redo with either Adian or if the client, Mrs. McCloud decides to wait for Jerry. She did seem eager to meet with Adian, though.

One thing I know, is that she definitely didn't want me involved with her company, so I backed off, unwilling to negotiate with her.

If I have my way, Adian will not be meeting with her, a note I already scribbled to Caleb when we realize how difficult she was being, confirming it.

I returned to the office, suddenly nervous, once again.

I had given no thoughts to the contents of the information, I read about earlier sessions of therapy, but I know, Adian will be waiting for me and as much as I want closure with my parents, I'm so scared to confront what I found out.

I should be happy that Adian is involved now, but would he want answers about the files itself?

Putting on my happy smile, Caleb opened the door of my office, allowing me to preceded him into the office.

"I'm ready for my cheesecake!"
