Chapter Forty Three - Working Together

Hailey's POV

Running up the stairs, not only to prepare for work but to get this uneasiness in my stomach settled.

Closing my bedroom door behind me. as I leaned against it, smiling happily putting my palms against my chest, steadying my pounding heart.

This is certainly unexpected, a good unexpected. Walking further into the room, would Adian take me to work, or would I have to go with Basil. I'm not ready to make our relationship public because I still have one desire in my heart and it's about my parents and what actually happened.

Taking another quick shower, I tried to remember last night and what happened, that cause Adian to open up to me. Did I say something? I have a knack for speaking in my sleep due to my nightmares.

OMG! Did I have a nightmare last night in his presence? He was in my room. Remembering now! I was crying and he held me close.

My dream and nightmare book? I was clutching it when I started sobbing and he held me when I fell asleep. Crying!

Washing the soapy residue of my body, I quickly ran out of the bathroom, wrapping myself with a towel, to find my book hoping Adian didn't see it. If he saw it, he would know my fears and about my brokenness. It could also be why he's being nice to me.

Thrown on the floor, in front of the bed, was my dream book and an empty wine glass from last night where I fell asleep crying.

Sighing, thankful that Adian didn't move it, I put it back in my suitcase as I rummage through my suitcase for a wrinkle free outfit to work.

Satisfied with my choice, I took my time dressing for another day at work hoping I get another assignment because I already got the Simon's deal covered.

I'm proud of myself and what I accomplished so far, even if my husband's intentions were not in the right place when he gave me the assignment. Then again he did bet Jerry that I would get the deal.

Smiling at the thought that Adian actually likes me. Tying my long black hair in a high ponytail, using eyeliner and a nude light pink lipstick. Covering my shoulders with a short lilac jacket over a dark purple and lilac short, thin strapped dress that dropped about four inches above my knees.

There was a knock on my door, before I could answered, the door opened and Adana walked in.

"Wow" Adana said, whistling, she checks me out from head to toe.

"If my brother was here he won't let you out the door" Adana grins.

"Seriously?" I asked running towards the mirror to check out my outfit, frowning. I look good, I thought spinning around.

"No, I mean you look great" Adana corrected me, chuckling.

Did she say 'if her brother was here'? Not wanting to pry about his whereabouts, I didn't respond to what she said because my happy mood just went on the down low, after hearing that he left without me.

"Gerard is waiting for us downstairs and Mrs. Harris has already prepared breakfast." she informs me, leaving me alone, to finish getting dress.

Picking up my handbag, after making my bed up, closing my portable closets, I left to join the others in the kitchen minus Adian.

Slowly walking down the steps with my heels hanging in my hand, trying to put on my happy face so that I don't show my disappointment about Adian's absence.

"Hey" I said, seeing only Adana, Mrs. Harris and Gerald in the kitchen.

"Where's Basil?" I asked, sitting on a empty stool with pancakes and eggs already prepared for me.

"He and AD got a call and had to leave immediately" Adana tells me between mouthful of food.

Chuckling, "take your time" I said, starting to eat my really tasty breakfast.

"This is really good" I tell Mrs. Harris. "Thank you" I added, continuing to eat my food in silence as Adana chatter away with Gerard and Mrs. Harris.

During their chatter, I thought that if Basil left with Adian, then it's not about me and it is important.

I also learnt that Gerard is a ex-marine, wounded on his last tour, hence this driver, bodyguard stint.

Adana hustled us when she realise she had only fifteen minutes before the first bell, so putting on my shoe, I took my dishes to the sink and started washing it, before Mrs Harris reprimanded me, putting me out of her kitchen.

I joined Adana in the car with her hustling Gerard to get her to school on time.

After dropping of Adana. Gerard took me to a coffee shop near Sullaknights building so that I could top up on my caffeine intake.

I bought two extra large cappuccinos, my favourite, giving one to Gerard.

"Can you come by to take me out during the lunch! I'll calk you when i'm ready?" I asked Gerard politely.

"I'm going to be around with Basil out so it won't be a problem" Gerard informs me.

"Okay?" Basil's out. It must be important. So Adian won't be here today also.

"I'll see you around then" I said closing the door, walking towards the lobby, sipping my coffee.

I smiled and wave at the friendly security from yesterday.

Walking towards the elevator, "only one cup?" I heard behind me. Spinning around, I came face to chest with my husband's neatly covered abs.

Stepping back, to look up at him, " I bought two but I give the other one to Gerard" I said, softly

Taking the cup out of my hand, Adian started sipping the coffee with a satisfied expression, before putting an arm behind my back, guiding me towards the elevator under the watchful eyes of Adian's employees.

I can just imagine how the haters will continue to hate.

"Stop worrying, I can't see your sexy dimples with that frown" Adian whispers, chuckling softly.
