Chapter Eighty - Confronting the ex

HAILEY'S POV

I was ushered into the room Adana occupied, followed by Mr Knox, Basil and the two officers.

I nervously walked to the only chair in the room and sat down, my feet shaking with nervousness.

"Ms Sullivan, I'm officer Johnson and this is officer Palmer." Officer Johnson, introduces himself and his partner.

I didn't utter a word, because he clearly wasn't speaking to the right people. If he was, he would know that I'm married.

Looking at me with a bland expression, officer Palmer, spoke first. "We understand that you made a serious accusation earlier, ma'am" he started, "and then went on to attack one of the dinner guests" he said, raising his eyebrows to look at me with his green icy cold eyes.

Frowning, "what are you talking about?" I ask.

He opened his note pad, "one of the witnesses said that you accused her of drugging, Mr Adian Knights another said that you punched her, as she was trying to help her fiance, Adian Knights." he says, clearly believing that I'm the guilty one.

I stared him straight in the eye, before turning to Mr Knox.

"Take their names and badge numbers. I can see the children's home will be getting an upgrade, thanks to the, CSPD" I emphasized smiling, as Mr Knox nods in understanding. Basil starts chuckling. If, it was only about me, I would take the blame and hide in a corner, but it isn't. It's about my husband.

Surprised, both officers look at each other, but Mr Knox spoke before they could.

"If you're arresting my client, go ahead because she will not be answering any questions tonight." Mr Knox, responds curtly.

Officer Johnson turns to address Mr Knox, "sir all we are trying to do is find out what occurred here earlier" he tries to defend his partner.

Shaking his head, Basil walks further into the and closer to me, dangling his phone on the air.

"Didn't sound like that to me" Basil retorts. "In fact, what it sounded like to me, is that you heard two persons account of what occurred and you tried to imply that Mrs Knights was guilty" he said lifting his phone to their faces to show then that he was and still is, recording the questioning.

Frowning, "Mrs Knights, you said?" officer Palmer repeats, confused, looking between, Basil, Mr Knox and I.

Raising his eyebrows to look at officer Johnson who was much taller than him, "oh didn't your two witnesses inform you? Or the Bradford's, whose the owner of this INN" Mr Knox mocks him.

Closing his note pad, "I can clearly see that there's some kind of misunderstanding happening here." officer Palmer looks at me with an apologetic smile. "It's best that we wait until Mr Knights awake" he concludes, looking at his partner to confirm his decision.

Nodding, "yes, we will return tomorrow" he said, moving towards the doorway.

"One more thing," they both turned to look at me walking towards the door.

"Until my husband awakes, I want you to arrest the woman with whom I had the altercation with earlier" I instructed the officers

" Uh, but ma'am," Officer Palmer started, "the other party involved, is the one with all the bruises" of course he defends her.

"All I did was defend myself. How could I know that someone who clearly don't know to fight, would start a fight with a person, whose well verse in martial arts and boxing?" I said innocently but firmly.

"Adian is going to have a good laugh when he wakes up and hears this" Basil laughs.

"She attacked me first and there were, "I started counting with my fingers. "four witnesses" I informed, him, pushing him aside, walking out before them.

Adian's mother was not in the corridor, but his ex was and the way she was glaring at Mel, it seems that we interrupted an argument.

Officer Johnson walked over to Adian's ex and started. reading her, her rights, despite her protests, before handcuffing her and leading her out as she threw insults and threatened me.

"I'm sorry ma'am" officer Palmer said as he walked away and officer Johnson, tipped his hat and walk out with a promise to come by tomorrow.

Ryan came to hug me, "how did it go in there?" he asks with concern.

"Fine" I smiled, looking at my room.

"Go ahead, I'll make sure all your guests are off for the night." he smiles, ushering me into the room Adian was in.

Hugging him, "you'll meet me before you leave?" I ask softly

Chuckling, "I'm not leaving. I'm using Adian's room and we'll sort the rest out later. I'm not leaving my son now" he says, with raw emotions dripping from his mouth.

I hugged him again. "Thank you, thank you so much" I said happy that at least Adian has one honest parent around.

Basil leaves to assist Ryan with the guests, but Mel remained with me and I was grateful for the support.

Mrs Bradford mentioned that Adian's ex give her the wine so I'll have to wait until Adian wakes up to deal with his mother.

"Come I need help unzipping this dress" I invited Mel to follow me.

"Wait" she held me back.

I stopped and wait for her to explain,

"Adian's mom is with him and so is his sister" she informs me, softly.

I hesitated, before actually walking in, to see Mrs Knights sitting in a chair, which she pulled closer to the bed.

Ignoring her, I walked towards the bed, where my husband laid asleep.

Making move to sit on the bed, Adana turned to face me, angrily, with tears streaming down her face.

"How could you?" she immediately lashed out at me.

Confused, I examine her face, now noticing her red eyes, her red cheeks and nostrils. She'd been crying a lot.

Adian's mom had a smug look so I realized that she must have said something to Adana concerning me.
