Four months later
After the store closed, I found a management position at a mattress shop twenty miles from my old job. The hours were similar, though it didn’t have as much foot traffic as I was used to. A week into the job, I was bored, but I’d needed the money, since my savings had been running low since the end of July.
Nance had kept in touch for a short time, saying she’d gotten a position at Lenox Mall, which she loved. Definitely more upscale than her old job. Some of my coworkers had remained in retail, while others had found desk jobs of some sort. It had taken me the longest to find employment.
