Chapter 32 : The aftermath

*Juliet*

When I come to, my eyes blink rapidly as I glance around my surroundings. I’m still strapped into the driver's seat of my car. My heart is beating fast, and the panic has only grown in my chest, which doesn’t help the ache pounding at my temples.

The car is still on and the headlights shine brightly on the tree I’ve just hit. Leaning forward over the steering wheel gives me a small view to see how badly the car looks. It doesn’t appear like the front end of my car is that badly damaged. The car must have been able to slow down enough that the impact only stopped the car rather than crushed it.

The area around me thankfully looks familiar and I realize that my house is just up the road a little. The realization that I had made the mistake of driving home instead of going to Eric’s house, must not have occurred until we were almost all the way home.
