Chapter 4

" Next up on our list... Magnus vs Lionel. As explained yesterday, The chosen ones would typically be playing as medic the whole time. However, by special request, and this is approved by the faculty and the student body, And against my warnings, The match has been changed. For these two, it will be a special round. It will be a fight. The first one to drop to the floor for longer than three seconds loses," Mrs. Jones informs the class. I look down at my palms. Dammit. This had to have been Magnus's doing. I look at him, catching his stare.

"Hear that Lio!, We get to settle this, Mono y mono..," Magnus sneers, his smirk widening by the second. I glance at him, feeling bored.

"So it appears...," I murmur, turning back to Mrs. Jones.

"Can we get this over with? I'm sick of this competition," I ask. She nods and steps back.

"Alrighty, you two step to the center and get ready to begin," I stalk forward, stopping right in the center of the little fighting arena created by the teacher. This should be illegal. Is pur little fallouts that much of an interest to the entire school?

I look off to my right, watching as class by class the school starts to enter the gym, filling the bleachers exponentially. I stare in awe as the principal walks in like a model on a reality tv show with a microphone in hand.

"What the hell is this...,"

Five minutes later, and the gym is divided. The school had voted who they wanted to win, and went to their respective sides. On my side, the only two I could recognize were Lyon, Michelle, along with Mrs. Jones. I never learned the name of anyone else to care which side they choose. I tap my fingers together, anxiety filling me. This fight is gonna show up in front of the whole school, and half the town that came for their family. This is messed up.

I glance at Magnus, seeing him doing his routine stretches, his dark eyes focused entirely on the floor. Hes in his element here. I stand up straight, crossing my arms as I wait.

"Are you ready Students!," The principal roars over the mic. The crowds cheer, giving a standing ovation to Express their approval of the fight they're about to witness. I look down at my arm, still aching from the needle yesterday morning. I don't feel anything yet... No powers... Why arent they developing.

Magnus smirks, his horrible hellfire igniting to life in his palms, his eyes dark with a wild desire to win. I clench my fist, looking at him. I need to avoid those god forsaken hands. I tap my feet.

"I promised Lio!! I'll end you..," He called, his hands clenching at his sides, blazing even brighter, and much hotter than before.

"We'll see," I replied. Suddenly, a whistle blew, and he was running at me, smirking widely. I lunged to my left, dropping to the floor and kicking his ankle as hard as I can, watching him fall. I leap to my feet, clenching my fists, adrenaline filling me.

"DAMMIT!," He exclaims, rising to his feet, he turns, wiping away his bloody nose.

"Still think you can win?," I ask smirking. Before I could blink, hes in front of me, grabbing my shoulders and bringing his knee up into my gut. The air was ripped out my lungs as I curl inwards, a natural affect.

A sharp pain slams through my spine as he slams his fist down onto my back, sending me sprawling to the floor. I help and spin around, kicking him in the groin before rising weakly to my feet.

"Cheap trick Lio...," He growls, his smirk turning into a sneer. I laugh.

"So is burning me asswipe," I go to punch him, but he catches my fist, his flames burning my skin. I grit my teeth as the smell of my burning flesh floats into my nose. He spins and kicks my ankle, slamming me down into the floor again, before yanking me up again, his flames still burning me.

"I wont let you lose just yet... I'm having too much fun!," He cries before launching me across the arena. I roll, coughing harder. I sit up, slowly getting to my knees. He stalks over to me calmly, his sneer turning into a confident smirk once more as he grabs me by the shirt, lifting me up to face him.

"You're nothing but a whiny little crybaby!! No wonder your dad left you..." He cocks his head with a smirk.

"Better yet, that's why you're mommy abused you...," He grins. Whiny... Little.... Crybaby... Alone... Alone... Alone... ALONE!!!

I look up, staring into the eyes of the upperclassman I once adored.

"A whiny little crybaby,?" I ask. Suddenly the air drops in temperature, Magnus's fire slowly dying out. Magnus stares at me in confusion, taking a step back.

"What did you do...," He demands, glaring at me.

"DAMMIT LIO WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO ME!!," He roars, storming up to punch me. I laugh, cocking my head.

"What did I do to you?!" I cry. I could feel the tips of my fingers turning to ice, and I can hear the teachers murmuring in the back, arguing about shutting me down. Students tremble from the cold. I clench my fist.

"IM SICK OF YOU AND ALL THE SHIT NAMES YOU CALL ME!! IM SICK OF YOU!!," I scream. That's when it happened, a wave of ice shot from my body, slamming into him with extreme force, throwing him all the way across the gym. I start to stalk forward, the memory of my mother's burning eyes filling me.

"LIO STOP!!," The gym was silent besides the screams of the teachers trying to stop the fight. Everythings so dark... All I see is black... I cant tell what's happening... I can only hear the yelling, the memories of my cursed past. Then, it all went quiet.

"Where did it come from...Lio..." His voice demands. I turn, seeing Magnus laying in the nurses bed, his eyes locked on the floor.

"Why do you care?," I demand, turning away. I clench my fist, trying to control my breathing yet again. Cant lose control.. Dont lose control.

"I may have lost to you this time... But it wont happen ever again!! Got it Lio," He cried, his voice shaky. I turned to see his full scowl, and for the first time ever, his blue eyes were watering.

"You know... For some odd reason I looked up to you... I learned everything I could from you. About Soccer.. About Math, about any of the subjects you tutored me on. And the second I became proud of myself for being accomplished, you turned into this.. I dont know what triggered the change, but know this Magnus," I storm over to him, kneeling down to his level, staring into his blue eyes.

"I will be your downfall. Because I'm not afraid of you anymore. And the best thing is... I dont owe you a god damn thing," Without saying another wood, I turned and stomped out of the nurses office.

"That was crazy!!,"

"His power was so strong!,"

"But did you see the look in his eyes!! Hes insane!! He looked like he was trying to kill Magnus!"

"What do you mean it looked like... That ice blast and then the beating he gave afterwards when he blacked out!! Theres no excusing that he was trying to kill him"

"So... You're the talk of the school right now," Lyon said, coming up from behind me. I look down, my eyes burning.

"They all think I'm crazy now... Was I that scary out there,?:?" I inquired, turning to Lyon. He shrugs.

"I thought it was awesome, and so did everyone on your side. It's the people on Magnus's side that believe you're a psychotic brute looking for blood," He retorts with a smile. I grin.

"Thanks for having my back. I appreciate it kid," I murmur, turning to him. I pay his head with a small smile, before walking outside. The second I'm out of the school, my eyes start to burn. Then, a single tear made it's way down my cheek. Then another. And another. It repeated until it was a downpour of my tears, my anger and disappointment at myself growing stronger and stronger by the second.

I finally stood up to him... I told him how it felt... How I felt... So why does it hurt so much... I hate him!! Why do I care if he was injured.

My mind flashed back to the other day, the unfamiliar emotion in his eyes when he gave me the burn cream, and again when he saw my bleeding arms from the bursted blood blisters from that said burn.

I stopped, staring down at the floor.

"Did I do the right thing?," I look up in the sky, the tears in my eyes growing heavier.

"I won... I shouldn't be... I shouldn't feel such regret... DAMMIT!," I stormed off home, my fists clenched the whole time, and one thing on my mind.

Does he think I'm a monster now???
