Life Sucks, So I'll Become A Light Novel Protagonist!?

Hasegawa Kenta is a 27 year old NEET. He has no social life. He just plays video games, reads light novels, stalks idols and watches anime all day. As fate would have it, his parents cut him off from his allowance. This causes Kenta to spiral into a crazed frenzy. Being a NEET, he has only but one choice...become a light novel protagonist! As the protagonist usually dies before entering an Isekai, Kenta has no choice but to kill himself...but can he actually do it? And if he does, who's to say it'll actually work? Seeing as how he has nothing to lose, he'll give it a go!...Or will he? Japanese title Romaji; Jinsei wa saiakuda kara, ore wa raitonoberu no shujinkō ni naru!? I've opted to use some Japanese words here and there, as this is just something I wanted to write for fun. Feel free to look the words up, you may learn something! I am in no way a professional writer, and this is merely a passion project I'm doing for fun when I have extra time. I'm a huge Otaku myself, and particularly love Isekai anime/manga/novels, so I figured I'd try my hand at writing one myself! Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!

Fight or die.

"There's no way..." Kenta stared at the beast, it's sheer size caused him to tilt his head back so far, it looked like he had broken his neck.

The beast was closing in on Kenta, getting closer and closer with each and every thundering step, leaving large holes in the ground where it's hoof like feet had landed.

"Ha ha ha," the beast chortled, saliva and bone fragments leaping from it's massive maw of a mouth.

"Why have you not yet ran for the hills? Either you're very brave, or too frozen in fear to move! Ha ha ha!" the beast waved his hands in a mocking gesture.

Kenta's gaze was still fixed on the beast, unmoving.

"I need to do something...I can't die here...I need to save Colle-chan...!"

"Move, damn you!" Kenta yelled, hitting at his legs. He surveyed his surroundings, looking for anything, anything that could be used as a weapon. Something to even his odds, if only a little. (I'm no fighter...but I need to do something!) he thought, and just as he did, he noticed an axe sticking out of a stump not too far from Collete's apparently lifeless body.

(That's it!) I just need to...) He hit his legs as hard as he could, dived, rolled and shot up faster than he's ever moved in his life. "Aha! So I see you decided to run after all. A wise choice, albeit futile!" the beast roared, pulling it's fist back, preparing to strike. Kenta grabbed the axe just as the beast threw his massive boulder like fist toward him, swung, and lodged the axe between the beast's knuckles. "How's that for futile, you ugly fucker!?" The beast screamed in pain, grabbing at the axe with it's other hand in an attempt to free itself from agony. "Now that it's distracted..." Kenta scooped up the broken girl and ran for the house. He looked down at her face, her once warm, glowing smile shattered in an instant. And why? What point was there to this senseless attack? It filled him with rage to think about it. He looked away from her, he couldn't bare to see this innocent girl in such a state. Just then, the axe Kenta struck the beast with came flying from behind him, past his face and burried itself in the ground in front of him.

"I grow tired of this, Visitor", the beast growled, rubbing at it's bleeding hand, "I will annihilate you, and then have my way with the girl."

Kenta stopped, looked at the axe, then back at the beast. Was this the end? He thought he could at least save the girl. If he could at least save someone. Do something good in his life. Just once. No. He was a failure in this life, just as the last.

The beast was upon them. It lifted up it's giant, tree trunk-like arm, and swung at Kenta. Kenta held Collette tightly, hot tears streamed down his sullen face.

"I'm sorry, Colle-chan...I couldn't do anything in the end...once a failure..." What a mess. A brand new life, a second chance. And it was already over. He closed his eyes, accepting his fate.

"Oi."

A large man slowly walked into the clearing. He was nearly as tall as the beast who was about to take Kenta's second life. His chest was bare and he wore long black pants. His body was covered in muscles. Not a single scar on his bronze colored skin, it was immaculate. Like a statue. Curly jet black hair covered his face, making it hard to see his eyes, but a deep set, azure glow could be seen through it. They had an almost melancholic look to them. A little girl was sat on his shoulder, she was wearing a black robe with a hood and had hair similar to the man, only longer. Her eyes also had the same glow. She gazed at Kenta, wistfully.

(What's up with these two...and that girl...is looking at me?)

The beast stopped his swing just before lopping Kenta's head off, and looked at the man. "What have we here? Another lamb to the slaughter?" it grinned an evil grin, licked the blood from its own hand. "Fine by me, I was feeling extra hungry today! Hahaha!"

Kenta, regained his thoughts after nearly being killed again, stared long and hard at the two mysterious people who appeared out of nowhere.

(Who...the hell is that?) he looked the man over once, twice. (He looks seriously strong...like the final boss in a fighting game or something.) he then looked at the girl again. (And this girl...she's really cute and she's just...staring at me. What gives?)

The girl opened her tiny mouth. "Haaah.." she exhaled. She looked away from Kenta, held on tight to the man and closed her eyes.

"Stand back, boy" the man grumbled at Kenta, cracking his knuckles, his neck. He points at the beast, "You're making too much noise."

"Hahahahaha!" the beast laughed so hard, it almost appeared to be crying. "That's the first time a human has ever genuinely made me laugh! Almost a shame I have to kill you!"

The beast lunged at the man, the man caught the beasts fist, crushing it with a light squeeze. "Aggghhhhh!!! What...what the hell?!?" the beast yelled out in agony. He then approached the stunned creature and grabbed it by the head, lifting it off it's feet.

"Human?" the man growled, now holding the once seemingly unbeatable demon at his mercy. "Wait...I know you!" the beast cried out. "P-please... I'm sorry! I had no idea!" the once proud beast pleaded with the man.

A crunch followed by a splat, the man had crushed the beast's head in his hand. The beast fell flat at the man's feet, blood spouting out if it's neck.

"I am no such weakling." the man said, walking past the carnage and heading out of the forest. The little girl turned, meeting Kenta's eyes once again. "Farewell for now, Visitor." she said softly, bowing her head, turning back towards the giant man. Then they were gone.

(There's that word again...Visitor. What does it all mean?)

Kenta watched them go, then looked back at the horrific scene in front of him. He wasn't good with gore, and this was as gory as it got.

"What...even just happened..." he said, exhaling deeply as he looked away from the carnage. "He defeated that monster like it was nothing! And all I could do was cower in fear like a little bitch!" he yelled, hitting his fist into the ground. "Ke...nta..." a tiny voice. It was Collette. "Colle-chan?! You're alive!" he hugged her before realizing he should be gentle. He was not sure how serious her injuries were, so best to play it safe. Just then, an old man came running up to them. He wore a red hat, white tunic and brown pants. He had a cane that curved at the top, it was nothing flashy but looked sturdy.

He stopped, stared at Kenta holding the bloody girl and surveyed the scene.

"You...what did you do to my granddaughter?!" he unsheathed a sword from his cane. "Huh?" Kenta said. The old man dashed towards Kenta in a flash, swinging his cane sword with precision. He moved like lightning, not a single wasted motion. Before he could react, Kenta was struck by the blade across his chest. Blood splattered on the old man as Kenta fell to the ground. He looked up at the man, who was now attending to Colette. Kenta's eyes slowly shut as he passed out in a puddle of crimson.

Kenta just can't catch a break...
