Chapter Forty Six.
Zawadi sighed heavily,her eyes fixed on the pregnancy test results In her hand.She had just found out she was pregnant and was shocked.
Not that she didnt want the baby. Of course that was not the case. She loved children and had always wished to have her own.
She was definitely happy about the situation. She just wasn't sure what Lucas would say, what he would think.
He too loved children and was good with them, but they never really discussed about a child and she wasn't sure whether he would want one of his own.
She folded the paper then kept it in a drawer near the bed.
She would tell him, she decided, and whatever his reaction would be, she would make sure that she keeps the baby.
She walked to the mirror and lifted her shirt a bit, she smiled brightly when she felt she had a bump.
"You really are there aren't you" she said to herself, her hands caressing her tummy"Mummy already loves you"
She turned around when she heard her phone ring, then gasped when she saw it was Lucas.
"Hi" she greeted .
"Hi baby. Are you okay? I just got a message that you went to the hospital " he asked.
"I am fine...wait, who told you that I went to the hospital? "she asked confused.
"Your driver did, so tell me are you okay?" he asked again.
"Yeah I am fine. I got something to tell you, so I'll tell you later, when you come back to the office "she said.
"What is it? You sound worried "
"I am fine. I am just hungry I guess. And lonely, and bored, and..."
"Okay, I get it. Why don't you come to my office so that we can both go for lunch" he suggested.
"Really? I would love that"she said with a new found excitement making him laugh.
"Yes, "
"I'll be there soon "she said and hung up.
Excitement coursing through her, she quickly changed her clothes and left for his office.
She really was happy to see him. He had only been gone for a few hours but she missed him terribly.
"Thank you, " she told the driver, getting down. She didn't even wait for him to open the door for her.
"Be careful madam" the driver said amused, gazing at Zawadi who was running towards the office.
"I will "she shouted back laughing.
"Hi, is Mr Steele in? "she asked the receptionist.
"Yes he is in. Are you okay madam, you seem out of breath"she observed.
"I am fine. Don't worry. Can go in?"she asked.
"Sure ..."
She didn't wait for her to finish saying the words. She took of in the direction of Lucas's office, a huge smile on her face.
"Come in " Lucas said, his face buried in the paperwork before him.
He instantly got alarmed when his eyes landed on his panting fiancé.
"Is someone chasing after you or you just missed me too much "he teased.
"I missed you" she said simply, throwing herself in his arms.
"I missed you too cupcake "he staggered back but caught her nonetheless.
"Water" she croaked out.
"Here "he said offering her a glass of water. "Why did you run so much " he asked.
"I wanted to see you sooner" she said.
"Just that? What if you had fallen down in the process, what if you broke your leg? " he scolded.
"I am fine "she said easily, then continued." I wanted to tell you something, "
"What is it?" he furrowed his eyebrows.
"Well the thing is..."She rubbed her hands together.
"What is it? "he asked again.
"Well, you see. I went to the hospital this morning because I was feeling sick and... "he interrupted her again.
"And... "
"Jeez! will you let me finish "she said getting angry.
"sorry, sorry. Go on"
"I am pregnant "she said .
"What? "he asked in shock.
"I am pregnant"she repeated. "And I am keeping it, whether you want it or not" she said on the verge of tears, taking his silence to mean that he didn't want it.
"Of course we are keeping it. I am going to be a father" he said as if coming out if shock, a grin covering his face.
"Yes"she said,
"I am going to be a father "he shouted loudly.
"Shh! Will you keep it down, everyone can hear you " she scolded.
"Keep it down. How can I keep it down? Do you know how happy I am? I am going to be a father. "
"You are happy? I thought you wouldn't want it" she said.
"Not want it? Why would I not want it? I want this baby, in fact I already love it so much." he said and gathered her in his arms.
"Jack" he called through the intercom" come to my office right now "he ordered.
"Why did you call him"she asked.
"You will see"
"Yes sir you called for me"Jack said coming into the office.
"Yes, I need you to gather everyone. I have some important news to share with them" he said looking at Zawadi.
"Yes sir" he said and left.
"What news do you want to share?" she asked him.
"Come with me" he said ignoring her statement.
He led her to the conference hall where everyone was gathered.
He turned round and drew her closer, his hands around her waist.
"What are you doing? " Everyone is watching "she tried to get out of his hold but he only tightened his arm around her.
"Let them"he simply said, then kissed her, chuckling when she turned deep red.
"Thank you all for gathering here. It is said that one should first share good news with family before anyone else. And since you all are family, you have the right to hear the good news from me.
I am so happy to announce that my fiance Zawadi Mwamba is pregnant ." he said as people broke into cheers and laughter.
"I knew you would share in my happiness, thank you all. I also have a gift for you all. All of you are to receive a pay increase and a bonus starting this month for all your hard work and dedication" he announced to the already wild crowd.
"Thank you sir"the said in unison " congratulations "
Suddenly, everyone broke into song and dance. Zawadi gasped as many people surrounded them, congratulating them.
"I am so happy "she said and hugged Lucas.
