Chapter 23

I play with my fingers while bowing my head. My parents are in front of me, and I'm just waiting for them to scold me. Ate Amery cried after hearing what I revealed the other day. She's disappointed because even though she already had suspicions, she expected that I wasn't pregnant. I'm the only one studying in our family because Ate Nave is working, while Ate Amery has a part-time job, but it's not enough because she has a child.

We went home the next day, and I could feel the tension in the house. I don't even know if they told Ate Nave.

"You're just in third year, Laurene. Haven't you thought about the huge responsibility of being a parent? Is this the result of your recklessness at school?" Mama said angrily.

As we sit at the dining table, an uncomfortable silence fills the room. I can't bring myself to eat, especially when Mama starts talking. Papa remains quiet, but I can tell he's also disappointed, his expression revealing his true feelings.
