Chapter 4

Rin turned towards the screen on the desk. She touched the box below and the screen turned on. A couple minutes later she asked Kear to read the screen. To Kear it was easy and easily translated for Rin. Rin had Kear try more and more different languages. It was easy for Kear, but every time she completed her task, Rin had a sullen look on her face. At first there was astonishment, and later came to this gloomy look.

Rin turned towards Kear with small tears forming in her eyes and told her to wait in her for a moment. Rin stepped out the next moment.

Kear took a few moments to understand why Rin felt that way. She basically proved a child that she has raised is dead. If Rin completely believes her, then she just destroyed that woman. Kear felt dead inside as she noticed that.

She started thinking about what happened to Veno. Was he in her body? If he was, then was he still bleeding out?

Kear ran out towards Rin to tell her that Veno might… No she couldn't if everything was true, how would Rin even help Veno. Her body was either dead or dying. If everything was true, then Kear hadn't even been born yet. She had to at least apologize to Rin.

She looked around within this building. Exploring around looking over everything. She had never been in a place like this, so Kear found it all interesting.

A while later she found Rin walking out of a room.

"I'm so sorry for that. I realized that telling you that, we don't know what happened to Veno. I hurt you by telling you that. This is all my fault."

Kear apologized towards Rin: respectfully. As this boy's mother, she had a right to know. Though she is aware that it must be painful. Even if she doesn't believe it all, Kear felt bad for not knowing anything.

"It isn't your fault. Whether you are Kear or Veno, I'm sure we can figure this out. You did fall off the bed so… you must be hungry."

Kear saw Rin shake her head. She too hoped that Veno was still here and not dying in the space station.

Kear was indeed feeling hungry, but more than that she felt the need to use the restroom. Wait how does it work? She asked for the bathroom. She didn't ask Rin about it because she didn't want to burden that woman any longer. She pointed to the room behind her.

---

It took Kear a little bit of time to use the restroom. It was a new and weird experience. She felt weird as she knew this was a young man who was fifteen years old.

After washing up, she went out of the restroom towards where Rin mentioned she needed to go. She found Rin and there was a countertop like at those bars she used to translate in for military events.

The food looked and smelled delicious. There was a glass of what smelled like apple juice. She had it once before, but it tasted terrible. She didn't want to be rude, so she took a sip. It tasted delicious, it was sweet and a hint of sour.

"This is good! Last time I drank this it tasted terrible."

Kear looked at Rin and she gave a small smile.

"Please eat up and we can talk after some more."

Kear ate the plate empty. It was amazing and she loved every bite of it. She had gotten used to the military 'cuisine', and that barely had flavor.

---

"Rin I want you to know I will do everything I can to get your son back. I don't know anything, but I will."

"Well for now could you act like Veno. I don't want to worry the kids. Veno was someone they looked up to."

"I have no right to say no. I'm just an invader to Veno. I will do anything you want, even if you wanted me to leave."

"Once Granno comes back I will talk to him. I will tell him that you bumped your head and were confused and have amnesia."

Kear noticed that Rin was having a hard time talking.

"Could you tell me more about Veno?"

"Yes."

Rin had a big smile on her face. Honestly, Kear felt horrible in this situation. In the past couple hours she has in a way come to terms with this. Sure there is a part of her saying that it could be some kind of brainwashing of the United Federation's enemies. Though she could feel everything, smell, touch and taste everything; it is all just too real to be fake.

---

Kear and Rin had a good heart to heart. Kear listened to everything about Veno. If Veno was still inside this body, maybe this could wake him up. They both laughed at the happy stories that Rin told. Kear started to understand Veno a little more.

With no family to call his own, he found one growing up in this orphanage. He has lived here all his life. Eventually calling Rin mother in his heart. His best friend Granno has been with him his whole life. Not blood brothers, but a family. Kear had grown up in the military, so she could only guess that he was a normal growing boy.

He learned, laughed, and cried. This was starting to feel like a funeral for Veno, so Kear made sure to remind Rin that she would do whatever it took to get him back. Her life ended, so if she could trade it for Veno's she was more than willing.

"For now just live his life. Learn things on your own and maybe he might come back."

Kear grabbed Rin into her arms. Rin was crying her into her chest. The loss of one's child is the harshest thing. Once she was out of the military, she wanted to find her own family. She would take care of this one like her own, for Veno. He deserved that much at least.
