Chapter 2: Life as a Kobold!

Blake had listened to everything the system was able to tell him. From what he could gather, he had been reborn into a world similar to the fantasy game he used to play. That meant monsters, magic, lots of fantasy races and adventurers running around the world saving princesses and shit.

Unfortunately for Blake, he had accidentally pressed the randomize option after creating what he had deemed to be an overpowered masterpiece of the magical arts and his finest work ever.

Now he was stuck begging for scraps as a lowly Kobold monster living inside a dungeon that was also home to other monsters. Not that he was disappointed or anything.

He had also found that his new life was based on the game itself, seeing that he had a level, currently being only level 1 that also came with stats and other things like abilities.

The system would allow him to view this as he pleased, also giving him updates and being able to offer quests to help boost and farm EXP at a quicker rate than normal. Hence why it was a feat ability.

Blake had studied his stats and abilities for a few days now, having gotten to grips with what each of them did and was responsible for, trying to make the most of them.

Name: Blake

Race: Kobold Lv1 (0/50 Exp)

Health: 8/8

Stamina: 6/6

Mana: 2/2

Ability points: 0

-----------

Strength: 1

Agility: 1

Intelligence: 1

Unique Skill: Dragon belly.

Skills:

Strength boosts attack damage and physical power, and also raises the Health and Stamina stats, meaning it would be very important.

Agility boosts one's speed, acrobatic ability, senses and reaction speed, along with accuracy and dexterity. Meaning it would also be very useful.

Leaving Intelligence, giving a boost to Mana points and ones over all knowledge and brain power. Or so the system explained.

Blake had also seen that he had a unique skill called Dragon belly. The way the system explained it was that whenever he ate living creatures he will take the best parts of them and absorb their abilities. Blake had also seen this on the feat list, not thinking much of it considering he didn't really fancy eating monsters in the first place.

That was pretty much all he had to report on his abilities and strengths. Not very impressive at all compared to what he would have started with had he not pressed randomize button by accident.

Still, Blake had not let that stop him. He had instead decided to make the most with what he had been given, doing his best to acquire knowledge regarding his environment and take into account the hierarchy of this tribe.

Naturally it helped that he spoke the language. Something the system said he had been given as a starting perk, helping him to get his baring's from the get go and not having to learn some crazy language that these monsters spoke.

Blake had also found out that a Kobold grew at a very quick rate, becoming fully grown in only six years. However, he had also seen that they did not care much about caring for their young. Seeing that he and the others his age had been left to grow and fend for themselves as soon as they were able.

Kobolds themselves had scaled skin between reddish brown and black in colour with burnt orange to red eyes. Their legs were sinewy and digitigrade. They had long, clawed fingers and a jaw like a crocodile complete with small white or tan horns protruding from their head with rat-like tails. Something that had also taken him time to get used to was that they all smelt like wet dog. And given his increased sense of smell, it certainly took some time to go nose blind to that fact.

Blake and the other young ones had been left to fend for themselves in their pen, rolling around and playing in their own filth only being given scraps of food to eat, barely enough for them to survive on until they got old enough to fend for themselves.

Still, Blake had continued to press on, feeling himself growing stronger with each passing week, doing his best to scrounge as much food as he could.

He was now two and a half years of age, meaning he could walk, run, talk and do pretty much anything else a kid could do. The way the system had explained it was that for each year of a Kobolds life, three and a half years would pass for a human. Meaning once Blake reached six he would be around 21 in human years.

Blake had also learnt that once a Kobold made it to three, they would be appraised by the village elder. The elder would then decide what path the young Kobold would take, weather it be hunting or training to become a warrior.

Kobolds were only small in stature and their biggest flex was fighting in numbers. However, from what Blake had seen they were also gifted in building and setting traps, as well as being fierce and proud when it came to battle.

Blake hadn't really been one to make friends in his life before. But for some reason he had been able to befriend a small group of the other Kobold children here. Blake had put it down to his increased intelligence given that he still retained his memories from his previous life, giving him an edge over the others.

Nev was one of the said children he had become somewhat friends with. Funny considering this was the same kid that Blake had told to piss off and pushed away from him on his first day in the pen. Nev had black skin and red eyes, giving him a cool looking appearance, like a mini black dragon.

Next their was Eggi, he was a little smaller than the others but he was quick and funny. He had the normal red skin colour and orange eyes that most Kobold had.

And last but not least was Varka. She was the only female of the group, she was quiet and timid. But, Nev enjoyed having her around so Blake didn't care to much. She was small and had brownish red skin with red eyes.

That just left Blake. Blake had only seen his own reflection a handful of times now when he was lucky enough to get a pail of water to himself that was.

From what he could see he had a dark red tint to his scales, however, his eyes were an emerald green. Something not very common among Kobolds. He was also a little taller with a stronger build than the others, putting it down to his systems advantage.

The day was as normal as normal could be in this crazy situation Blake found himself calling home. The day revolved around stealing or begging for food and water, nothing new for the group.

The way the Kobold adults saw it, if you could steal and not get caught, then there was no harm. However, if you got caught, which Blake and the group had been sometimes, you got one hell of a beating. If they could catch you that was.

So far Blake had been able to level up a couple of times thanks to his system designing silly quests that gave him experience. Like stealing food and getting enough water for the others and himself. It wasn't much, but it had been enough, helping to increase his level by three now over the two years he had counted being in this place.

Name: Blake

Race: Kobold Lv4 (80/400 Exp)

Health: 23/23

Stamina: 21/21

Mana: 17/17

Ability points: 3

-----------

Strength: 4

Agility: 4

Intelligence: 4

Unique Skill: Dragon belly.

Skills: Sprint. Quick hands. Sneak.

All of Blakes abilities had also increased, finding that once he levelled up he normal stats such as health, stamina and mana would increase by five points. The others would only increase by one and he had gained one ability point per level that the system said he could spend to level up his stats extra if he wished.

Blake had also earnt three separate skills. These skills were things that he had become proficient in, such as sprinting. Something he had learned how to do after stealing some food and getting caught, needing to make a break for it.

The others were the same. However, the way the system explained it to him was that with a skill, even though it sounded like a normal movement, Blake could use the skill to boost his ability in that action. It would cost him some stamina points, but it would increase his sprint far beyond what he would normally be able to sprint.

These skills also had levels and ex-points of their own, meaning the more he used them, the more proficient he would become in the action.

Another six months seemed to pass Blake and the others quickly as fending for themselves got easier and easier thanks to Blakes intelligence and physical ability. Infact, more and more of the other children had wanted to join Blakes group, making it seem like he was the leader of a small gang like the lost boys or some shit, not that he cared much for the others.

However, the day would soon come when it would be their time to be appraised by the elder. That was the one thing that none of them could run from. The other adults may have allowed their stealing for survival slide, as was the tradition of Kobolds. However, once it was time to be appraised, the guards soon turned up and you were carted off without a choice. Something Blake and the others had witnessed more than once already.
