New truths

As she was clinging on to her tail she suddenly heard the lady's voice.

"Anything wrong with your tail my dear?"

Kira didn't know if she should cry or laugh at the absurdity of the question.

"Not beside the fact that it is there?"

----

Inari noticed the confusion and bewilderment on her daughters expression, she had been so pre occupied with finally getting to see her daughter she hadn't even considered her circumstances, calling Desmond over she asked him to provide a quick summary of what happened prior to her arrival and she now understood, her daughter hadn't been keeping up the illusion to spite her, it was truly who she believed herself to be.

She had lost all composure the second she saw her daughter as she truly was, it was as a precious star had finally returned to her sky.

but she had found herself too blinded by how sparkly and beautiful it was to notice it was hurt.

she had watched as her daughter had eyed the chalice before gulping it down really giving away her starvation, the satisfied expression on her face afterward made it completely worth it.

the liquid was more work than most treasures in the kingdom as it was concentrated enough it could allow lesser demons to skip entire evolution steps and gain massive amounts of power in one go, Kira however seemed bottomless and Inari had definitely caught how she had eyed the chalice to see if there was more.

calling a servant she ordered them to bring more for Fiara, while she watched her currently absorbed with her tail.

"Lady ?"

it struck Inari that she hadn't called her mom even once furthermore she didn't even know her name, it hurt her a tiny bit but she decided to hum an acknowledgement of letting Fiara knowing she was listening.

"Were you so desperate for your missing daughter that you've used magic to make me replace her?"

She knew Fiara had jumped to the wrong conclusions but the question still struck her heart with a dagger.

"Fiara my dearest, Ofcourse not, as that wouldn't even be possible...."

"Kira, my name is Kira you got my name wrong!"

Kira interjected with venom in her voice.

looking at her daughter Inari opened her mouth and closed it again, what was she supposed to reply to that.

Trying again

"Kira, I will acknowledge the human name you have been using, replacing you with someone else and pretending they are you would be impossible.

First, can't you feel the connection at all?

Secondly a human would likely die instantly in this environment, not to mention that speaking using our inherent translation magic would result in misunderstandings and everyone would know I brought along a fake if my daughter didn't speak the demonic tongue, only pure demons know that language instinctually other races can learn parts if they study for their entire life time but it would never be the same as pure demons, that's why we always are the ones to speak other beings languages rather than attempting to have them speak ours"

Kira remained silent for a bit but wasn't at all satisfied with the explanation.

"Seeing you just turned me into the same being you are wouldn't that simply mean the so called demonic tongue came with the package"

at this point Inari was at witts end, her daughter had definitely inherited her own stubborn streak and at this moment that was definitely not a good thing.

hearing a cough for attention in the distance she saw Desmond seemed like he desired to interject something.

"You're allowed to speak Desmond"

Inari confirmed, and Desmond gave a polite bow and started.

"Dear Kira, you spoke the demonic tongue prior to even arriving here, you understood what I told my sister outside the library and at the same time did you grasp parts of what I said the day after, Fiara might sound like something you would recognise from your native language but truth to be told would humans not even be able to pronounce the true version of the name, hence why your friend at the library accused you of speaking made up languages, I understand that having your weaved illusion removed by force might have seemed like she used magic to change you, but at the very least you can be assured that the ability of speaking our tongue is not new."

Desmond, you've truly earned your worth, Inari thought to herself, while watching her daughter out the corner of her eye, as It was very clear she was struggling with coming up with a counter to what Desmond had just said.

They all got interrupted as the door towards the kitchen opened up, and 3 servants in maid and butler uniforms came in with a new jug and refilled the chalice in front of Fiara ... with a sigh Inari corrected her mental thought to Kira, she knew that if she was to gain any progress with her daughter it would be better to call her by her desired name.

It was however an interesting sight, Kira was currently eyeing the liquid once more with clear desire, but trying to hold herself back.

"Dear, don't hold back while this is precious high quality does it not mean that we aren't capable of procuring more"

----------------

Kira was currently eyeing the chalice once more, she still didn't truly understand what the liquid was but without a doubt did she desire it, had she become addicted already, rather is it even possible to become addicted to any substance so fast she thought to herself.

She spent a bit holding herself back until she lost the fight against her own will power and once more consumed the entire thing, by now she had consumed litres of the weird liquid, and she only barely felt her odd hunger satiated slightly, however she felt a warmth coursing through her body and a freshness she had rarely felt, it was embarrassing to admit feeling this but she had always been slogging through life barely managing to handle her daily life by spending the energy she had, but right now she felt like she just chugged down an army of energy drinks and was prepared to race a marathon, her mental awareness had also gotten an uplift and she felt a lot of her brain fog she hadn't even been aware of was there had lifted.

She was still not convinced this woman hadn't forced this upon her to replace her missing daughter because to her it still seemed more likely until she spoke up again

"On your left thigh is there perhaps a birthmark slightly resembling a fox or maybe you would have seen it as a dog or a cat"

Back when she had been 13, her classmates had a teased her about it during gym, to her knowledge it was a birthmark she had always had, she hadn't even noticed that the shape resembled anything before then, the school had called her Foster parents and well, her then Foster dad had then beaten her up in the name of discipline as she was way too young and how dare she disrespect them by going behind their back.

truth to be told she had mostly forgotten the birthmark completely, but the lady bringing it up was a slap to the face.

However within Kira welled up a tsunami of indignation and hurt,

"If you are supposed to be my mother why did you give me up in the first place, my life wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows you know, and now you're coming here as I'm an adult and suddenly claiming I'm your long lost daughter, I've been ping ponging through the Foster care system during my entire childhood with no family or relatives to call my own, and now as I have established a simple but stable life you throw it on its head, abduct me and try to claim a familiar bond where were you when I needed you!"

The Woman responded strongly, Kira might as well have slapped her, but it was the deep sadness that flashed over her expression that caught Kira off guard especially as she would have missed it if she had glanced away for even a moment before her expression turned neutral once more.

"I will not make up excuses for my failure, do however know that I spared absolutely zero resources on my attempt to find you, the seal..."

Stopping herself she got up, you're an adult by human standards by now so you should be mature enough to see the truth for yourself rather than me trying to explain.

as she stood above Kira she seemed to non verbally ask permission and Kira complied at the very least this might provide some answers.

what she saw next was not what she had expected, she saw a tiny girl maybe 1 year old with the same birthmark as her, but with a very different appearance than she would recognise herself as, she saw the Siblings looking the same age as they do hovering around her constantly.

Then she saw the day she had been taken, the panic and saw as the lady she now somehow knew was named Inari was ruthlessly killing what seemed like an entire kingdom.

only to find the guy she had trusted having taken his own life and her daughter no where to be found, time then skipped through various attempts to find her only to end in dead ends over and over again until the final command to investigate the library deeper.

Kira had hadn't only felt her desperation during the search but had also felt her seething anger as she had mercilessly killed what seemed like an uncountable amount of people single handedly.

Kira knew they had described themselves as demons, but only though seeing her killing countless amounts of people and absorbing their souls to further strengthening herself while she continued on with her massacre truly drove home the meaning, yet the weird part was she didn't feel any disgust nor uneasiness about the fact her mom had done that for her but instead honored, it proved that she had cared enough to try everything, much more than any of her fake families of the past would have even considered.

looking back at Inari.... No her mom, she noticed the worry in her eyes she quickly tried to hide the second she noticed Kira looking.

Her mom spoke up.

"Sweetie, I know what you saw might seem extreme and I understand you were raised amongst humans and as such your values might be a bit different, but know I did what I did for...."

cutting her off Kira raised her voice.

"Mom, stop!"

Her moms eyes widened with a shocked expression, clearly holding back tears.

"You don't have to justify your actions, I understand what you did for my sake and I'm glad, I am still having a hard time acknowledging that you are my mom, as I've been alone for a long time, and all of this is ...

Real, part of me is still thinking I'm on a rather extreme drug trip held up in a cellar somewhere as the whole idea of super natural demons and all that stuff as short as yesterday was just made up stories"
