chapter 4

I sat on the bench at the bus stop under the cold night. I couldn't see a thing, no one was passing by and I doubt the bus would arrive anytime soon. My account was freezed and I had no access to my money so I had to use public transportation.

My ear plugs were on so I let the music I listened to take me far away from my problems, my Dad had disowned me and cut ties between my family and i. I was a nobody right now.

I felt helpless and weak. "What am I going to do now?"

I could feel something tapping my shoulders, when I opened my eyes I gasped in fear.

"It's me dear, it's me" my mother she was here. She held my hand and placed it on her face "see it's Mommy". I was surprised that she was here but most of all relieved, I didn't have a clue of what to do without her.

I broke down like a baby and hugged her.

"I thought you sided with Dad too" she kept patting my back, while I cried.

"I won't do such a thing, you're my child after all I'll never abandon you" she placed a kiss on my head. "Come on let's go "

She snapped her finger and her bodyguard walked up to us and helped me carry my luggage

"Thank you"

She pulled me out of the bench and led me to her car that was packed a few miles away.

" Mom" I had a feeling my dad and Mom must have quarreled because of me. "Dad said he..."

"He said gibberish dear" Mom quickly interrupted me. She opened the car door and pushed me in.

"Tim, to the my estate" I turned to my Mom dumbfounded, I never knew she had an estate.

"What? Did you think your father was the only rich parent?" She laughed lightly and somehow that made me laugh a little. "Everything will be fine okay" she placed her hand on mine and squeezed it lightly.

I nodded slowly, it made me feel at ease knowing my mom had my back. I rested my head on her shoulder and sighed in relief " Thank you mommy"

"You're welcome but that doesn't mean you're off the hook yet" my body stiffend a little " but for now let's get you back on your feet"

Darren sat on a large emerald sofa in a huge living room. There were bottles of alcohol on the center table beside him. The room was brightly lit by a glass chandelier, which was hung at the center of the golden ceiling.

There was a golden staircase leading to another hall upstairs, and a grand TV was hung on the north wall of the room. The room looked extravaganza. One could tell it belonged to elite among elites.

Although Darren seemed to be watching the football match tuned on TV, his mind was far from the match.

"Still deciding" German walked down the golden staircase, with a glass of wine in his hand.

"Yep" he replied lazily, and took a sip of alcohol from the glass cup in his hand.

"Are you sure you won't wing it" German walked to him and sat on another sofa in the living room.

"I don't like any of them, I'm not gonna wing my future, German geez" Darren hissed in annoyance.

" sorry just an opinion"

The two men enjoyed the silence in the large room and watched the match.

" I can't get her out of my head" Darren closed his eyes" her smile, her voice..." His lips curved upwards as he recalled their first night together."...her body...Gwen"

German watched his heartbroken friend, if he knew Gwen was planning to cut him out of her life, he would have stopped her. " you know you can still contact her"

"I'd rather not" Darren opened his eyes and the smile on his face died down. ".

"Besides..." He had a sad smile on his face " I brought it upon myself " he finished the alcohol in his cup in one go "if only I was serious or I had paid attention to her and her feelings, maybe she wouldn't have thought of..." His hands dug through his hair." She actually loved me and I was such a fool I didn't confess my feelings for her"

"Watching you right now makes me wanna cry," Darren arched an brow and glared at his friend"just kidding, if you ask me you're behaving like a kid it's only being two weeks, why not contact her and tell her how you feel..., See it's as easy as A B C"

"What if..."

"Don't worry about that, just go for it"German advised his friend.

Just then a phone call interrupted their conversation.

It was Darren's phone" hello Kimi"

" he-llo (wailing and coughing "

"Kimi are you alright" Darren sat up immediately " What's wrong?"

"Please hurry, we need you (coughing and wailing)"

Darren didn't give Kimi the chance to finish up he hung up and stood up abruptly.

" What's up "

"Something came up" Darren ran upstairs to find his car keys, while German picked his phone and dialed a number.

" we need a flight to the island"

"Yes sir"

Darren was downstairs in less than a minute. German tailed behind him as they both left the house hurriedly.

---------------------------------------------------------- 8 months later

I watched my mom and George sort out the baby clothes we shopped for. I couldn't hold back my smile.

" This would look perfect on my niece" George held up a pink gown and turned to me " don't you think"

" Niece? I want a grand son, a strong boy" my Mom quickly pulled out a navy blue shirt and twirled it round." Look at this it would fit him perfectly.

"Why can't we have a gender check and stop jumping into conclusions" Francis came in with a tray of fruit smoothies.

"NO!!" Both Mom and George yelled in sync.

"We wouldn't want to ruin the surprise" Mom spoke like a professor while George nodded like a diligent P.A .

" You both are a handful" Francis shook her head.

She walked towards me and handed a glass of smoothie to me

"Thank you" I need this glass. All day I had to listen to the continuous bikering of mother and son over the gender of my unborn child.

They had spilt the child's room in two halves and had it painted in colours that were gender biased.

It's been 8 months since I moved into this apartment. It belonged to my mom, well the estate I currently live in belongs to my mom's family but she had a house set up for me and to my taste as well.

I currently had school on pause for me but I'd be resuming two months after I have my baby. Things haven't been so bad as I thought it would be, I had my Mom and siblings with me all round the clock so I hardly get bored.

As for my Dad I haven't set my eyes on him since he disowned me. It hurts knowing he really meant it but what can I do?, I'm at least grateful my mom and siblings were here with me to provide all the care and support I need.

I rubbed my huge belly slowly and listened to their conversation.

"how are you holding up?" Francis sat beside me and checked my pulse

" Good" though they wouldn't say it I could feel the anxiety around them. I as well was scared, what if I die during labour. I closed my eyes and shook my head wildly I shouldn't be having such thoughts.

" Gwen" George's voice caught everyone's attention. He had a serious look on his face. " now that you're finally having this baby..." He turned to my Mom who had a sad smile " are you finally going to tell us who's the father of your child"

The room fell silent, I'm not compatible with silence. I cleared my throat and took more sip from my smoothie.

"You know you can rely on us dear, there is nothing to scared about. After all the father of the child doesn't even know about his child, at least if we know who the father is we'll know our next course of action" I totally understood what Francis was saying but I already had a resolve.

I looked away sadly and stared at the pink baby bed my brother spent time working on." I'm sorry" I whispered " I already have my resolve"

I could see the disappointment in George's face.

"Well it's nice knowing you have a resolve" Mom chuckled " now have you decided a name for our baby"

"Our?" I smiled, she always had a way to brighten us up.

"Yes I was thinking I'll name my niece,   Georgia" George chirped in immediately.

" That's cliche" Francis waved her hands " I preferred if she's called Helen"

" And who said the baby is a girl" my Mom pouted like a kid" I want my grandson to be named vandel instead"

I smiled and rubbed my tommy.

"what do you want to be named darling?" I sighed " don't worry, mommy picked the best name for you it's one of a kind bet me" i found myself giggling like a kid.

I didn't realize my family was watching me closely." I can't wait to carry my grandson" I looked up to see my Mom shedding tears. She stood up from where she was sitting and walked to me evolving me in a gentle warm huge.

"Regardless of what you have done, I'm proud of you taking full responsibility for your mistakes. I love you my dear, more than ever" tears fell off my eyes, I buried my face in her gown and hugged her. She was my pillar and my support, I would have never been able to cope with my life if it weren't for my mom and siblings who went extra miles just to help me.

"Thank you for everything, I love you guys" my siblings also joined the hug and I felt really warm, just that something felt off with my back.

"My back hurts Francis is that bad" I asked once we broke from our hug. I held my chest, I didn't know why but i was finding it difficult to breathe. "Francis"

Francis stroked my back gently " George get the keys quick"

"What's going on?" Mom started panicking.

" she's in labour" Francis replied and added a little force to my back.

" labour, I thought I had 3 weeks left" I turned to her while gasping for air.

"Well, it looks like your baby wants a new apartment" George joked and came to my side. Francis and George helped me up while Mom ran to get things ready. My legs were getting heavy and the pain was increasing with every step I took.

Suddenly I felt fear, immense fear, was I going to have another near death experience.

A few hours later

I looked at the bundle of Joy in my hands, I had CS instead of natural labour which I thank Francis for.

His hair was a black as midnight and his eyes were dark blue. Somehow it seemed I couldn't escape it. He looked exactly like him, like Darren his father.

Mom had already called half of the nation to spread the good news. George on the other hand put up a facade of being sad, that my child wasn't a girl.

Unexpectedly my father had barged into the operating room or so Mom said, but right now he was no where to be found, maybe he cared afterall.

" Thirteenth August..." I smiled and rubbed my baby's face gently " Happy birthday August Gwen"
